The agency has been described as a stripped-down successor to the controversial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), formerly headed by billionaire Elon Musk.

So a digital infrastructure upgrade is sorely needed but I sure as hell don’t trust this administration to do it.

[–] GheeButtersnaps@lemmy.world 63 points 2 months ago (2 children)

They HAD a group for digital infrastructure. Guess who was one of the first groups targeted by DOGE? 18F was the group that was all internal to upgrade services like Weather.gov, Free File and lots more.

[–] FatCrab@slrpnk.net 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

18F was also mandated to work with state and local governments through various grant programs to upgrade their digital infrastructure. It was a great, albeit still not sufficiently supported, program that of course these silly fucking morons got rid of just to replace with one that has enshitification built right in from the start. Republicans are truly the party of enshitification.

Some (obviously only blue) states are starting to implement some groups for themselves to fill the gap. Hopefully they have the budget and success with it to really help it blossom.

Those sunglasses look dumb as shit and they probably cost like $750

[–] Gnugit@aussie.zone 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think it's the shit eating grin that makes the ordinary looking glasses look dumb as shit.

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That doesn’t help but for me it’s the weird leather(?) thing with a button on the nose bridge. What is the possible reason for such a thing? Looks dumb, makes the lenses too wide set, and because he’s a techbro I inherently assume that weird button is a peep camera like the facebook glasses

Oh, that was common in the 90s I remember a lot of them when I was a kid but I never retrieved the info on what is actually for. I assumed it was just fashion.

revamp the public websites at the cost of selling private data to health insurance companies and what not. then probably get caught and fined for %0.1 of the profit you made.
