When should I stop watching the Mandalorian?

I'm considering finally getting around to watch the Mandalorian. What season does it start to fall off?

Id recommend stopping after you finish the series as there aren't any episodes after that

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 days ago

They snuck one or two into Boba Fett's run.

@jewbacca117
Can't argue with that. But usually when I'm interested in a series I watch the episodes of each season in a random order, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to accidentally start with the shit parts.

@jewbacca117

Long story. When I was a kid, I found a cool semi-epistolary 8-book series at my school library about a modern-day kid named Pendragon hopping through a portal to save alternate timelines. It was so cool to me that the series jumped around in time so we had to figure out when we were in Pendragon's timeline. Turns out my school shelved them in alphabetical order, and they also lacked the first and last books. I had a blast & I've been trying to recreate that experience ever since.

You know what, I was aghast at first, but I can totally understand what you mean now. Sounds pretty cool

The Lazarus Project also is a fantastic time jumper. So fucking annoyed Sky cancelled it. It was an amazing show.

If you want to watch stuff out of (chronological) order, try 12 Monkeys (the TV show, not the movie, movie sucks IMO)

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

What? That movie was awesome.

Now that I know there's a series, gotta go find it.

[–] Hammerjack@lemmy.zip 10 points 4 days ago

If you don't actually care about continuity then this may not matter to you, but be aware that season 2 ends with a solid ending for the series. Then The Book of Boba Fett came out and was doing so poorly they shoved the season 3 premiere of Mandalorian as one of the episodes of Boba Fett. So if you went from the s2 finale of Mandalorian to the first episode of s3 of Mandalorian you'll be confused about how many things changed.

Also, season 3 of Mandalorian is when things get silly, like the Jack Black episode and the Pirate King episode.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

But usually when I’m interested in a series I watch the episodes of each season in a random order,

Does that usually work the first time through?

While the episodes for Mandalorian are self contained, they do build on each other and watching them randomly is gonna be a bit confusing for the background story.

Hahahahaha what the fuck are you smoking. This was the most unexpected twist I've ever seen in a "ask for recommendations" thread.

[–] Shkshkshk@dice.camp 1 points 3 days ago

@11111one11111
I mean, there's a reason I didnt lead with that lmao. I know it's demented but I don't think it's completely insane. I mean, George Lucas had a similar experience that gave him the idea of starting the Original Trilogy at Episode 4

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 36 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Like 10:30 pm, a good night's sleep in important.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

10:30? The fuck you think we're in college still? 9pm we're out

[–] Hellnikko@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago (2 children)

End with the season 2 finale. Then pretend nothing else happens after.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

ooh. I might have done that. I ended when baby yoda left with someone.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

You might want to watch Chapter 5 of The Book of Boba Fett, you don't need to watch any other episodes.

Technically the Bad Ending but understandable

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 17 points 4 days ago

Watch all of it and make up your own mind.

[–] minnow@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

I enjoyed the whole thing, but I also had a friend who had already seen it all help me adjust my expectations appropriately.

I think, with the proper expectations, it's not hard to enjoy anything.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

It gets dumber after season 2, but it's still kinda fun. For live action SW shows, it's basically Andor >>> Mando S1-2 > Skeleton Crew >> everything else shuffled around according to personal taste.

[–] NENathaniel@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 days ago

I think the whole thing was rather mediocre but, I enjoyed each season roughly equally. Imo there's not real quality dropoff, it just changes a bit.

If you haven't already, watch Andor, way better. Acolyte is decent

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 days ago

The first season was fun. I dumped the show after a few episodes of the second season as it was all the same shit again just not as much fun. I haven’t watched anymore.

[–] Satellaview@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

Even a bad episode of Mandalorian is still, like, perfectly fine. I’d just watch until you’re no longer enjoying it, or you finish it—whichever comes first.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

I've seen 1 till 3 liked them all

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Stop caring about what anyone says on social media and decide for yourself.

[–] SliceableObstacle@jlai.lu 1 points 2 days ago

"Do I waste my time doing that? " "you must decide yourself if that will waste your time"

Thank you, you're very useful.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I don’t find it worth it at all. Rewatch andor instead

[–] 11111one11111@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

He didnt ask for advice on how to fall asleep lol. Andor is the most boring show I've ever tried paying attention to. I think I've watched both season's twice trying to find the appeal and couldn't tell you a single fuckin thing that happens in any of the episodes. Couldt tell you the storyline. Couldnt tell you anything about the show other than it was just completely bland, boring and entirely forgettable.

Dont mean to sound like im discrediting anyone who enjoys it. Im just giving my experience watching the show.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I was the opposite. hated andor but loved mando.

I was always a huge mandalorian fan since kotor anyway, so not unbiased.

[–] ComradeMiao@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I can respect liking mandalorians since kotor but I’m not sure how to reply nicely to hating andor and loving mando within the new Disney Star Wars. I only found Andor and Rogue had interesting stories that moved the universe forward.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

sorry, hate was too strong of a word. more fatigued than anything.

I believe it came out around the same time the other "movies" came out like Solo. I did not like Solo at all, I never even finished it TBH.

I can see what you mean though, Andor felt more like Disney trying to shove back story in just to make a profit.

Frankly, I'm burnt out from trying to keep up between the Marvel and StarWars universe's and don't keep up on any of it anymore.

Disney did the only thing they know how, which was the worst thing ever. Shotguning cinematic universe's can damage your consumer market.

edit: I did watch Andor and it was a pretty good story, just not my cup of tea.

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I enjoyed the first two seasons and found that season three was where it slopes downward in overall quality. (Not to say that there weren't a couple of great episodes.

I found myself not liking episodes six and seven of season three. Episode six felt as if it were a filler episode with celebrity appearances. I believe that the execs saw how well the audience responded to having Bill Burr (Mayfeld) in the show as a one off and figured that they could 'boost' the popularity of the show with others. As for episode seven, I found myself removed from the action and story with its unrealistic. What I mean is that the Mandalorians are supposed to be some of the best fighters in the galaxy, and it didn't come across as such while watching the long battle.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

All three seasons are decent.

Proper watch order is Season 1, Season 2, Book of Boba Fett episodes 5, 6, and 7, Season 3.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Watch them all, but watch the episode with Bill Burr and Din driving the truck many times.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

When you don't enjoy it anymore. For me that was towards the end of season 1, but I can understand that many enjoy the series more than I did.

[–] wizbiz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 days ago

I couldn't finish the first episode it was so boring. If you're not interested let it go. If it is interesting keep going. It's as simple as that

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I enjoyed the whole thing, although I'm not really a StarWars Fan, so idk if it would be good if you judge it by that standards.

I'm not sure what kinda of a question this is lol, just keep watching and stop when you get bored. Its the same rule of thumb for every show.

[–] uhdeuidheuidhed@thelemmy.club -5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Episode 0. I've never seen it, but it seems like the kind of dumb normie-show that I wouldn't like. I base this solely off of all the morons I see that went apeshit over it when it came out.

Instead, treat yourself to some high-brow art like Undone. You probably haven't heard about it because it's an Amazon Prime exclusive, and most of the idiots today "consuming" digital entertainment have been conditioned to only see what's a part of their paid streaming service(s).

Since we're smarter than the average idiot, we can stream it for free here: https://hydrahd.io/ No account or credit card info required, but you will need an adblocker (which you should already have, but many morons complain about ads to this day without realizing adblockers exist.)
