And nothing will be done because Americans are pussies

A Banana Republic

The US isn't a democracy, it's just a fun house with meth, guns, nuclear weapons and a military industrial complex

From an article about it:

The majority of the Democrats complied with the law enforcement escort, showing reporters what they called “permission slips” they received to leave the House floor and pointing to the officers escorting them around the Capitol.

WTF. How have Democrats still not learned that complying gets you nothing.

She should stand up and leave. They said she is locked in? Is she physically locked in?

In Oregon, the Republican representatives fled the state to stop votes from happening a few years back. The senators were fined for disrupting legislative process and voters passed a referendum that missing a certain number of votes means you are not fulfilling your obligation as a representative of the state and may not longer run in future elections.

In Texas, threaten them with guns.

I guess there's more immediate results that way?

It's literally the law and intentionally written to eventually force a vote.

There is a ton of fashy shit going on. This ain't it.

The vote will happen once the money for fines runs out.

What is the law? That Democrats have to sign "permission slips" which means they agree to police escort? I didn't know about this law.

Article 3 section 10

The Texas Constitution and House rules give the House the power to “compel the attendance of absent members”.

In legal terms this means the use of force, in this case the sergeant at arms. They could absolutely arrest them.

This is not unique to Texas.

"compel the attendance"

She is already there is she not? So she is in attendance, and isn't absent.

Thank you for pointing out the law they claim to be using, but I have a hard time believing what they are doing actually qualifies under it.

Look, go argue with a lawyer on the specifics of you're looking for some type of loophole to fuck with the GOP. More power to you for picking apart the law. IANAL

But I do know this is pretty typical language when dealing with subpoena and contempt of court actions. The court has every right to prevent someone from running when there is a high likelihood of running.

How is this not false imprisonment?! She hasn't committed any crime. She can not be detained for any reason! This isn't just kidnapping, this is a constitutional crisis. If they can detain her for not signing away her right they can literally imprison anyone one for any reason.

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So? What are Americans or their government going to do about it? Pretty sure there's been multiple of those crisis things by now

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Truth but I believe this is the most high profile person to be treated this way. If needs the most attention.
