To answer your question: "Friends" was TV show from the '90ies. Don't know what it was about though, the title doesn't give much of a clue.
They are people that usually enter your life in humorous or even mutually beneficial situations ..... but then eventually want to sell you something.
Or they just got their real estate license.
Yeah...hadn't talked with a high school friend since I saw him at his wedding 5 years prior. I get a call out of nowhere and it was a pitch for Body by Vi. Obvious MLM. Haven't heard from him since.
But I did cross paths with another mutual friend years later. Said he lost a lot of money with Body by Vi
