I'm confused, according to the documentary idiocracy, the US government is on track to have a president camacho, but Starbucks has pivoted to office space rather than handjobs. Maybe this is the purge they need to get back on track

President Camacho was actually a great president. He identified a problem and enlisted the smartest man on earth to solve it.

[–] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was probably the only good thing he did

I mean I get why, if you are wanting a change of scenery, you'd bring your laptop to do some shit, but I wouldn't like spend more than an hour doing work there because of all the noise, let alone set up a fucking desktop computer.

I haven't seen an open power outlet at a Starbucks in over 10 years. They aren't taken, they are either locked or have been entirely removed.

but... why working in a starbuck? why not at home?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I am not one of these people but many find it difficult to work IN their home. They like the separation.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I can’t imagine. I work at a little desk about a meter from my bed. It’s the best ever.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

My WFH setup is in a room by itself because I absolutely do not want to see it outside of 6:30am-3:00pm.

Working from home is incredible but I like to have my life and career as separate as possible.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That’s fair! I switch between my game machine and work computer, so at the end of the day, my work computer is disconnected. I have an… interesting job, so most of the day I’m laying in bed watching stuff anyway.

Professional porn reviewer?

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I knew someone who used to monitor the transmission of porn (TV) channels. Apparently, it was the most boring, soul crushing experience. You lose all interest by about day 3. It also messes with your own love life.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Hahaha not quite, I’ve lately just been watching Moose2 VODs all day.

[–] PacMan@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

That was my setup. End of the day I would close the door and not think about work anymore. It’s easy to creep into working 24/7 if your not careful and you really enjoy what you do

[–] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I used to have a setup like that. It drove me mad. I felt like I was a prisoner in my own home. I slept, worked, and played games all in the same room. I took some advice to build up a cheap space for JUST work and it helped me a lot. I think it's just a person by person basis.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Yah it definite varies. I LOVE my setup. My partner and I are hella introverts and spend all of our time together, almost entirely in our room. We have two high end game computers next to each other, hooked up to two different monitors so we can play games side-by-side. When I work I use my game setup, just switched to my work computer. My cats cuddle with me all day. I never wanna leave.

If a Starbucks is better than home, then some people really need to fucking reassess their damn lives.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

It's not that it's better, it's that it's different

It's like not putting a TV in your bedroom so you associate the room with sleep and other bed activities

energy bill?

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 4 points 1 month ago

A lot of homes where I live don't have air conditioning. Might be more comfortable on a hot day.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fine. I'll take my business elsewhere! 😤
