Disaster in the making? It's already a fucking disaster. ICE agents have been granted additional slack above and beyond that already extended to normal cops, who frequently abuse it. This is going to be a fucking American Kristallnacht for Latinos, with more groups set to follow in the wake of these broad constitutional and legal abuses.

it's true that our current situation is a disaster. it does not diminish the fact that an even bigger disaster is being constructed while we process and attempt to repair this disaster. the old ice agents are bad, evil, and cruel, but they were also all recruited under a different framing of what ICE is supposed to be. the new ones will have absolutely no compunctions, no reservations, and no hesitations.

Yup, combined with the EO from Friday allowing for involuntary civil commitment, more and more people outside latinos are going to start disappearing. I'm just waiting for them to consider having liberal views a mental disorder.
They are going to go after trans people.
Is anyone going to do anything when we start being committed?
Short of hijacking a bulldozer and driving it through the exterior walls of these detention centers at risk of getting myself killed, I legit don't know what to do with anything at this point.

My options are driving either straight south or north and trying to sneak across the border. We aren’t recognized as qualifying for refugee status, I’ve been applying for jobs but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get anything, I don’t know how I would afford to move.
Can you elaborate on this more, please? I'm not familiar with EO's declaration regarding involuntary commitment, but if it means what I think it does, it's a sea change. Where did you first hear/read about it, and what was the verbiage exactly?
I just put the words 'executive order involuntary commitment' into my search engine of choice and found multiple news articles covering this. I have every faith that you can do the same.

Yeah, the govt spun the story of Abu Ghraib as being a few bad apples that didn't represent American values. And of course it's bullshit, because it's so incredibly predictable what outcomes you will get from doing things like this. Torture and abuse are American values, because that is what America consistently and repeatedly engages in.

This total includes $45 billion to create a sprawling detention system (nearly five times the annual budget for the Bureau of Prisons)
Now why would they need such a big budget for concentration camps if they're deporting the illegal immigrants? Seems like a big waste to build all those facilities and have them sit empty after the job is done.
Or is it more likely they're going to start rounding up other people too? Trump just announced they're going to go after homeless and mentally ill people. And we know they consider trans people to be a danger to themselves and gay/bi as deviants. We've also seen a rise on attacks against political opponents. Trump even wants to charge Obama with treason.
This is exactly the Nazi playbook from the 30s. And the American public is letting him do it.
For comparison, the Trump Admin just approved a 5000 bed tent camp at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. The contract was awarded to Acquisition Logistics for $1.26B.
That's $252k per bed. There's easily enough money there to build single family homes for every one of them, and even that would be wasteful. (And yes, even in high cost of living areas, the sheer scale involved would almost certainly bring costs below that number).
When we say "the cruelty is the point", this is why. There's a lack of other explanations for their actions.
To not be American and watch this all unfold truly shows us what Americans are all about. Around the globe we've listened for a long time about how dominant they are in everything but when it comes to standing up for themselves and their fellow man, they sit down.
