Does this mean I shouldn't be torrenting Strange New Worlds, or I should be torrenting it harder?

Seed that bitch so hard you can start a garden.

[–] taco@piefed.social 34 points 1 day ago

Seed your ass off.

Financially, probably torrenting it harder.

Socially, the problem with media is that even talking about the show makes people want to see it, which would increase their viewership.

For me, a media boycott would be to not watching it or talk about it. Keep the pressure on CBS and Paramount for caving to fascism.

right. seeding is a form of advertising.

It derives Viacom of revenue, but the popularity boost encourages Viacom to prioritize Star Trek.

Seed!

This makes me feel even better watching the not-so-authorized stream of the season 3 episode premiere last night. FUUUUUUCK you CBS

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I already am, but because CBS is thinly veiled right-wing propaganda designed to make right wing talking points palatable to a liberal audience and to also act as controlled opppsition.

[–] DaMonsterKnees@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Precisely this. Very well said.

This makes me worry about Trek and Avatar...

I'm not sure about recent Trek drama, but a F/F ship was already like pulling the exec's teeth in the later. They couldn't even depict a kiss. Even a show with a woman protagonist was a hard sell.

I spent a whole minute trying to figure out what an F/F Enterprise was supposed to be. I'm an idiot.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

F/F Enterprise

Now we're talking.

Devil's advocate says that Colbert got cancelled because late night talk shows aren't profitable anymore. Apparently people don't stay up to watch the show's commercials but catch it on youtube instead the next day.

Not that I would know, we've never had late night talk shows in Denmark, only two day old Letterman shows in the afternoon 20 years ago.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I feel this might be part of it. I love Colbert but I don't like late shows and never watched his except a couple clips online. I know I'm not the only one.

I don't even watch the Daily Show anymore but I always watch Jon Stewart's clips. Again, I can't be the only one.

Found out Colbert gets paid $15 Mil annually rn. Used to watch him. Don't much anymore.

Wild take. How much do you make on comparison? Geeze.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Sounds like they’re not doing their fiduciary duty to their shareholders.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I'll still watch Colbert until it's off the air. Other than that, absolutely not.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Is there any way we can convince Trump to cancel the Skydance/Paramount deal? That would do some real damage.

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 hours ago

Call it a DEI merger

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 5 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I’m honesty glad.

Ever since the election Colbert has seemed as if he is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

He couldn’t morally ignore what was happening but he also had to keep things light and establishment approved. This was obvious when Luigi was big news and Colbert took the violence is always wrong stance.

On the other hand, John Stewart made a neutral joke with a hint of support. Seemed obvious that even John Stewart was being restricted but his star power could almost overcome that.

I think this is good for Steven personally, he can stop pretending he supports the establishment (assuming he doesn’t).

The revolution won't be televised

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

It'll be on all the podcasts though between ads for AG1 and NordVPN

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Where's the cries about cancel culture now, when it's right in front of you?

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I already don't watch them, but now I won't watch them even harder.

[–] GratefullyGodless@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

Shouldn't we also be boycotting Skydance then as well? Why does it just single out CBS/Paramount, shouldn't there be pressure on both ends of the deal?

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I already was now that it's the B1G on CBS instead of the SEC on CBS like god intended

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 hours ago

60 Minutes and Colbert were the only shows on CBS worth watching anyways.

[–] yucandu@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Hide your face, raise your fists, and don't watch TV!

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

The only media worth a damn is Treasurecolumn on Youtube.
