I sometimes go on lemvotes to see who's upvoting garbage. 80% of votes are done by account with no or very little comments. I also noticed a lot of the pro zionist accounts went offline relatively all at the same time. Hard to trust anything on lemmy.

Hold up. So Lemvotes is basically churning Palantir style data on who should get sent to some camp if they even accidentally upvote something with the P location name in it?
Why they do that?
Because any admin can see it, and Reddit is certainly selling it. It would be unsafe to assume these data are kept private.

Interesting how many people here get hung up on downvotes and advise to either block the techies, the tankies, or both. And quite hilarious how this adivice gets so quickly derailed into 'political discussions' (rather namecalling and blocking each other). I wasn't even talking about downvotes, I don't care much about them, and I try to not get involved in political stuff where people consider it a useful way to discuss about any issue, because that's just kindergarden stuff and I'd expect a bot to be able to be a little more convincing than just downvoting my post or comment. Yet another reason to spend more time offline - I'mma switch all of you off! And you! And you!!

it's crazy how I can call someone out in a low traffic community and end up with 30 downvotes in five minutes.
it's also funny how when you call different people out on similar topics you get the same word-for-word response back from weeks or months ago.
I'm not saying it's bots, but......
tbh just with how the fediverse works I would not trust vote counts here whatsoever. The downside of having no central authority over the network is that anything that lets one instance affect the whole network, like votes from bots on one instance being federated, cant be entirely trusted.
Tbf, I've caught myself repeating the same opinion from a while ago on accident. I'm a person of habit, what can I say?
same opinion is one thing, but when two different people give verbatim the same bullet points it's a bit obvious.
I don't block users, I have a "firewall" on my brain (metaphorically speaking). I over analyze every comment, its kinda like a "spot the bot" mini-game.
I estimate there are like 1/3 bots especially on very heated political memes on the front page. I'm automatically just blocking out the "voting is useless, don't vote" sentinment, very unproductive. Also idk wtf is with the "don't protest, revolt now, kill [insert name of politician] right now", like why the f would you say that on the open internet where there are government automatic data scrapers archiving all this for evidence? (Remember you can get extradited for making threats) Like jokes sure thing, but don't be that explicit lol. Fed-posting is so common lol.
The less political, the less "bot-like" it feels.
I get what you mean, that's why I always overthink every comment and scan for like everyone's profile.

I often rant about eating the rich. It's because I'm genuinely angry about the situation at hand, and maybe ranting online helps with getting the frustration out without doing actual damage in the real world. Which I'm sure is exactly how the powerful intend it to be.

In the end does it matter? If the content is low quality, don’t interact with it. If the content is high quality, interact with it. Humans will always be better at producing high quality content compared to bots or trolls.
I'm coming to the conclusion that might the best way of going about it. Being even more picky than before about who I interact with is actually a good thing. If one or another insufferable person gets weeded out of the focus of my attention that's not really a problem.
I think we're too small a population for any nefarious motivated interests yet.

Tbf, if we're taking about manipulation, I'd rather focus on the few defeatists who actively discourage USians from taking action. I find that way more sus.

like yeah, we get it. they aren't much better in that regard, but...maybe we wouldn't have needless tariff wars, or verbal attacks on our closest allies, or ICE kidnapping American citizens, or American citizens being shipped to prisons in other countries, or concentration camps in America, or...had we voted for Harris and let Trump win(don't even get me started on that bullshit).

I await with interest the first serious accusation that I'm a bot. A very well armed bot, perhaps. I certainly type some strange things, but you guys have probably seen my hands too many times.
Unless my hands are also AI generated. Hmm.
I've already garnered the achievement of having several people on one of the Discord servers I hang around on of treating me as if I'm literally a penguin. Nobody's yet come up with a credible explanation of how I'd be able to type. (Including, surprisingly, the obvious hunt and peck gag that presents itself.)

Yep. It fucking sucks. AI is going to be running the show soon. Honesty? At this point, i think it’s easier to just accept it as normal. There’s not much that can or will be done about it. We’re losing a big part of who we are.
And sadly, the wondrous artistry we humans once possessed will run far beyond most of our remembrance, and will be left to the musings of those unheard.
