Unfortunately, the time has come for me to leave Lemmy. Time will show where we all end up. I'll see you in the future... maybe sooner than you think?

Edit: Follow up post is here. Don't worry. You're not getting rid of me that easy. I'm just switching to piefed.world

Is this merely switching from Lemmy to something else, or are you leaving the fediverse completely?

If it’s the latter, then I wish you the very best of luck. I don’t know you very well, but I remember you having had some personal issues in the past. Hopefully those aren’t coming back and you’ve just decided to simply move on. Regardless, your memes and shitposting will be missed.

Good luck to you! Or, as a wise man once wrote, “So long, and thanks for all the fish!”

I'm an idiot and it's hard to explain but this announcement explains it pretty easily.

It functions on the fediverse, just like Lemmy, but is a different platform/front end. They function damn near identically but Piefed has a more active development team that actually responds to requests and a dev team that isn't transphobic as hell. That's the selling point for me. I think the only feature that's not available on Piefed that I use pretty often is being able to paste images into text blocks. Fairly sure they're working on that too. You can upload them, there's a clicky for it, but it just won't automatically upload and paste the link like it does on Lemmy. Literally the only thing "missing" that I've noticed.

Thanks! Making an account

Oh, any specific reason you're switching software?

[–] Stamets@piefed.world 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Piefed has a few extra features that I like and I know that the couple features that are currently missing are on their way. The development team is pretty quick to respond which doesn't affect me a ton but I don't want to support a shitty dev team. Which then lines up with the third big reason, the Lemmy devs are transphobic assholes. If I'm going to be posting a lot then I don't want to be doing it using what they made.

Also Fxomt is convincing.

This is kinda a big deal for me too tbh. Do you happen to know, is there a good (android) piefed app, or is it website only for now? I imagine there'll be some of their aren't already, but my brief play store search wasn't very fruitful.

[–] Stamets@piefed.world 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I don't actually know and I'm kind of ashamed to admit that. I've heard that Voyager has got some early support but I know nothing about any other apps. I'm sorry!

[–] Nusm@piefed.zip 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Voyager does support PieFed now, and, while it's still developing, it's come along quickly and can be used as a daily driver. Interstellar also supports PieFed, but I like Voyager better (just personal preference I guess). I've seen that Mlem is working on PieFed support for iOS.

Haha, convincing or persistent? I guess he can be both :p

[–] Stamets@piefed.world 6 points 2 days ago

Deeeeeeefinitely a little of Column A and a little of Column B lol

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

LMAO

I'm unfortunately stuck here until Boost implements PieFed support

[–] Stamets@piefed.world 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I use boost on my phone too! Definitely waiting for implementation from Ruben. But I don't mind waiting. The dudes a superhero as far as I'm concerned.

Big big shoutout to Boost for Android. FANTASTIC APP and my favorite by far.

But will it continue to be your last post in the future? Or is it simply your last post at this moment?

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

They only offer Premium LITE now, which feels extremely ironic after rejecting it all these years. It's like: "So, you declined my offer for years but have you considered... a WORSE OFFER, human?"

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

YouTube keeps showing me offers to give me two months premium for free, but when I click it they offer only one.

I'm pretty sure this is illegal in the EU but I can't be bothered so I stick with the ad blocker and reset the cookies every once in a while.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm sorry to see you go. If you change your mind, we'll be here to welcome you back with open arms. Be safe.

Oh don't worry. I'm not going anywhere. I'm just a supreme asshole and figured I'd announce my switch to piefed.world in the most irritating way possible <3

Are you getting harassed again or taking a break, cuz life?

[–] Stamets@piefed.world 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (5 children)

Just being an annoying little shit and announcing my switch to piefed.world in the most annoying way possible. You know. For consistency.

I continue to download all videos and watch them locally to skip out on ads. Some channels bake them right in the video, but a few quick mouse clicks jump me over that garbage. When downloads stop working, I will find something else to pass the time.

[–] Alchalide@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I'd be more than willing to throw them a couple of euros each month. But paying like 14 per month for something I get for free now is just too much.

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They've been making money off my private data for years, I ain't paying for shit now

[–] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's been my feeling all along. $5-10 per month I can justify, but I really can't justify $23/mo to cover both my and my wife's accounts, especially given that they reportedly still sometimes show ads to premium subscribers. And honestly when they were getting really pushy about subscribing a year or two ago I refused because I don't give in to pushiness like that by tech companies

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’ve been on YouTube Premium since it was YouTube Red, and I’ve never seen an ad when I’m logged in.

I justify it because YouTube Music is included, so I can get music streaming without paying for a similar service from Spotify or Apple or Amazon or whomever, and also get ad-free YouTube on all my devices and whatnot.

I humbly reserve the right to give you a hug, if you'd consent, for all you did for us. Also I would like your permission to kick you in the balls for this "announcement". If your biology doesn't allow for that, don't worry, I've got a magic spell that can give you balls just long enough for me to kick them.

Just kidding, love you <3

[–] Stamets@piefed.world 4 points 2 days ago

Oh I've got balls but I do like them in their unsquished state. Perhaps instead you could smash a jello cake? Or maybe even yelling at a tree?

If I could a cup right now I'd go and get one...

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 4 points 2 days ago

Cast seal buttcrack.

[–] TheTetrapod@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Any chance they'll become fully interoperable? I mean, besides the standard fediverse account stuff. Ideally, being able to scroll my All feed on piefed and seeing Lemmy posts in there. I just don't want to go back to a ghost town like the Lemmy of 2 years ago.

Also, thanks for all the posts! You and Picard were the backbone of this place in the bad old days.

EDIT: I just noticed a piefed post in my feed. The future is now!

EDIT EDIT: It was a piefed user, I'm dumb.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

They fully work together. You can see piefed posts on lemmy and vice versa! From my understanding anyway. Just go to lemmy.world/c/support@piefed.world or something and you should be able to see posts with no issue.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I thought federated meant people see your posts no matter where you log in. But if going to piefed means you're "leaving" lemmy, kthxbye I guess. I don't see the need for an announcement.

Given how much tech likes to play "later then" with consent over a hard no i can only conclude their management is full of rapists
