Why would you regularly need to pass the time when you're not on the clock?

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 points 13 hours ago

Don't most people have access to personal hardware while at work?

None, I work when I'm at work. My hourly is laughable, I gotta sell if I wanna get paid.

As someone who felt the same for many years and finally got the house I never thought I would, keep moving forward! Eventually the hard word does payoff!

I love It because its design never changed in a million years.

It feels like the old internet. Fuck I miss those times. I also miss my friend Tom.

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 4 points 15 hours ago

I agree. Clear, simple design. No annoying popups and no reliance on JavaScript. It's the definition of a good website. All web developers should learn from them.

Tom's still around, he's just a photographer now: https://www.instagram.com/myspacetom

Geoguessr, it is an amazing way to clear the mind after one task and context switch to the next.

On my work computer? None.

On my Surface? YouTube, solitaire, random incremental games, Spotify.

You guys have time at work to use your phone at all?

[–] Lazycog@sopuli.xyz 7 points 17 hours ago

No, but I do so anyway because I'm underpaid.

Yeah it's always interesting to me when I come across memes and conversations about having nothing to do at work or just pretending to work. I've had different jobs throughout my life and I don't think I've ever really had one where I wasn't constantly working all day. I don't work a blue collar job, but I currently work in healthcare.

I guess it's the classic "office job" scenario where people just sit there not having stuff to do for large stretches of time? I always wondered how that worked.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 4 points 13 hours ago

As someone working with systems development (IT, programming), it's not so much that we don't have stuff to do, it's just that it's easy to get away with slacking off.

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

Internet is mostly dead, everything is big social media or shops, with a few blogs scattered around that I don't feel like reading. The other day I realised that I barely use the web browser on my pc anymore.

And porn, but that goes without saying.

News websites

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 1 points 21 hours ago

Pretty much just Youtube or random sites I've googled for whatever reason. I got banned from reddit and some lemmy instances hit the IT blacklist for being named like common malware so I don't even bother (plus it can get stale if you view it too often). I used to browse Facebook for the dopamine fill, but since the election that place has gotten quite insane even compared to how insane it was before.
