Um, excuse me. Thunderstorms are amazing! I'll take a good thunderstorm everyday of the summer over the heat and sun

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Every time there's a thunderstorm, a town or city floods. Infrastructure is not built for the kinds of rain we're seeing now and it used to be so rare it wasn't an issue. Now everyone is scrambling to build water handling systems.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is not the case everywhere.

My probtis i love in a tiny apartment with two cats. My windows were kept tight to keep on the pitiful amount of cold air from my window unit, but not being able to open the windows at night means my timy apartment starts to smell like cat real fast

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

This post is like one of those find the words puzzles I loved as a child.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Why can't you open the windows?

Edit: Ah wait I just remembered that German tilting windows aren't a thing everywhere

They're fine if you don't care about leaving the house.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.cafe 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is that supposed to be a negative? LOL

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Well in the event that you have to leave the house at specific times, which I do, I'd say yes it is a negative. Having fun outside with friends or family like going on hikes, swimming in a lake, picnics and such are also significantly less safe during thiunderstorms and yes, I enjoy those activities so it is a negative for me.

The problem I have is that my lease requires me to keep the lawn mowed. Between work and thunderstorms keeping the grass wet, it's hard to find a good time to take care of it.

Forest fires and the terrible air quality they cause

Life in the PNW for someone with asthma:
Winter - flu season! Hope you don't like breathing
Spring - allergy season! Hope you don't like breathing
Summer - fire season! Hope you don't like breathing
Fall - here are your two weeks of being able to breathe, enjoy!

Bingo. The second one should be wildfires instead of thunderstorms!

Swede here, there has been a lot of posts about a heatwave in Europe, so far the summer here has been very mild, and this is the weather I am seeing in the weather app for my two week summer vacation:

Hehe, just be aware that like the rest of Europe, we mostly don't have AC at home, and our houses are built to keep heat in, so when it does get hot, it is not ideal

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In the north we are mostly marsh land too so the humidity is peak

[–] lime@feddit.nu 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

don't forget the endless mosquitoes!

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And no-see-ums (biting midges) I have such a bad reaction to those pricks

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

I'm German and I've got an AC but I never set it lower than 26°C because that would be reckless 😅

[–] Marzanna@scribe.disroot.org 7 points 1 day ago

I'm using Swedish VPN so I'm having the same weather :D

[–] veroxii@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

That's pretty much our middle of the winter temperatures here in Australia right now.

I have no idea if 12° in non-freedom units is hot or cold.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

12°C is 53.6°F

[–] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Your high is lower than my low 😭

Can you adopt me? I'll sleep in a closet.

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

That's the dream temperature. Literally 20 degrees less than here.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

I loved it in the tropics. 40C day, then right on 4pm, BAM!!! It's 25C, there's an epic lightning show,, 10 mins later it's gone, the roads are steaming, and a nice balmy 28C night kicks off.,

[–] daniskarma@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

I love thunderstorms though. They are my favourite weather.

It's pretty clear that I have never been struck by lightning.

[–] GooberEar@lemmy.wtf 10 points 1 day ago

It's the summers that we don't get thunderstorms that I worry about, because those are the years we end up in extreme droughts and those are far more miserable. As for the heat, people find a reason to bitch about every season. It's too cold. It's too hot. Eew there's bugs. Damned pollen. Fuckin' leaves everywhere. Ice sucks. Bird shit all over. Santa Claus is coming to town, hide your kids and hide your wife.

Monday : Thunderstoem
Tuesday : Sunny
Wednesday : Rain but hot?
Thursday : The sun is a deadly laser, stay indoors.
Friday : Brigh sunny again but it will rain for 3 seconds.
Saturday : Normal summer sun, not deadly just hot. There will be a 1 hour window where we go through all previous stages above at like 2 am tho.
Sunday : Sunny, extremely hot.

[–] sfxrlz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes but The Thing is: Mood is still much better because there is plenty light till night.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh yeah for sure. My fav season despite everything.

[–] sfxrlz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah I find winter outright depressing

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Do not miss growing up in south Texas and having to deal with hot rainstorms.

And hail.

Do not miss hail.

May I join you? Watching rain is so relaxing. Hope it won't be too strong, we had strong one recently, bit scary.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 4 points 1 day ago
