Fuck this fucking country.

[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 57 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

this fucking bill includes a 100$ fee (that will increase matched to inflation) to declare asylum at the border. The government IS the cartel.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 34 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

And people will probably pay that fee only to get sent to a detention camp or worse.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 19 points 21 hours ago

And get charged with bribing an official.

[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.zip 13 points 19 hours ago

Oh so we CAN index stuff to inflation now?

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 45 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Politically vulnerable Republicans endorsed steep cuts to Medicaid and health care spending that are projected by CBO to cost 11.8 million people their insurance.

I hope every single one of them loses their next election. They are heartless, selfish bastards.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 20 points 18 hours ago

They won't because we are a nation of idiots

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago

What elections.. You think if these monsters worried about elections they would be doing this? Please Trump told Republicans they never have to vote again. That he got it fixed. There is no more fair elections. It will be like Russia. Welcome to fascism. Hang on for the long ride.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 21 hours ago

Well I am so fucking fucked

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Biden was doing a fantastic job and Americans revolted and chose this.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

You forgot the billionaires in the middle who bought the election.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 14 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

No I'm blaming the voter and the non-voters.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

A system informed those voters to vote through propaganda, or in many places, made it difficult or impossible to vote. We got to start blaming the people with the money and lobby power instead of each other. Fuck trump and his supporters, but most especially the billionaires who paved the road to his election.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

The system didn't make it difficult or impossible for eighty million people to vote that's just people not caring enough to get out there and do it.

I will blame them as much as I blame Trump's supporters.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

OK. That logic will absolutely not win elections or change discourse but at least you want to punch Nazis with me.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org -5 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (2 children)

Uhh, ok.

You know, a "first past the post" voting system like we have does not produce results that align with the wishes of the voters, right? And especially when combined with that asinine Electoral College bullshit (which I swear only exists specifically to make gerrymandering a thing).

Besides, a government so openly corrupt that we are the entire reason the term "banana Republic" exists is a pretty clear sign that our so called "democratic" system is, and always has been, a fucking farce.

You want someone to blame? How about the bigots and slavers that founded this shit hole. Hell, the first system of government they created accidentally left too much power in the hands of the people, so the Constitution was drafted in secret and without any legal authority. That alone speaks volumes.

And quite frankly, you sound like you have chosen to believe that everything is the fault of a portion of the populace that is less worthy than the rest. Guess what, though - that's textbook bigotry.

But, sure, go on with your bad self...or whatever 🙄

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Whatever your and my feelings are regarding national vs federal governments aside, I feel it’s important to point out that the expressed purpose of the electoral college is to guarantee that the states and not the people elect the president. It’s a specifically federal institution doing exactly what it was designed to do.

I think a big part of the problem is that as states have become less democratic people have turned to the federal government expecting it to act like a national one when it isn’t wholly. All of this attention on DC has taken attention away from things like gerrymandering which happen at a state level. This coup started at the bottom not the top.

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org -1 points 20 hours ago

I think the problem is far simpler; a system designed by so-called elites who viewed the citizenry as inferior. So they explicitly rejected democracy and chose to create a republic in order to be certain only those deemed "worthy" would actually hold power.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Unfortunately Trump didn't just win the electoral college but he also won the popular vote.

Does saying that make me a bigot too?

[–] forrgott@lemmy.sdf.org -3 points 20 hours ago

No. It does kinda make sound like a dork, though. Considering my comment largely concerned the history before that.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

What was inflation like during Biden's presidency? I agree that Biden did some good things but framing him as fantastic is a bit much, especially to the average person who doesn't give a shit about most of the stuff he did. American voters are supremely selfish and Biden didn't do much for them, at least not in an immediately visible way which is what he needed to do.

Just look at what's happening now. There's tons of bad things happening currently that I would call highly visible and polls consistently show that most Americans have no idea that any of it is going on. Biden made some solid efforts but almost none of it spoke to people on a personal level and that was his big failure. He thought Americans were paying attention when he needed to go out and grab their attention.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Inflation was bad worldwide and he was fantastic especially when you compare it to this shitshow.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

You're arguing from an informed and logical perspective. That's not how modern elections work in the US. Voters didn't know or care that inflation was worse in other places. They knew they were getting fucked in a back alley and Biden wasn't helping them put their pants back on. That's really all there is to it.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 13 points 16 hours ago

Hey America we about to be great again! *cough *cough *cough I should get this cough checked but I can’t afford to cuz of all this winning.

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago
