Elders were a great source is information when the world didn't change much. Now they know everything about a world that became irrelevant a decade or two ago.

Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao – were all in their 30s or 40s when they rose to power.

Thanks to the support of old men

I do not agree with the notion of "wise elders". I don't want to dismiss the wisdom that comes with experience and time, but there's too many other factors to disrupt it.

Alter schützt vor Torheit nicht or, in Billy Shakespeare's words: "There's No Fool Like an Old Fool"

The boomers have completely destroyed the illusion of age equaling wisdom. They're the generation most responsible for today, and today is a shitshow of unbridled narcissism.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 4 points 2 days ago

IDK; my father is one or two generations before boomers and what they did was not better.

Elders are not the solution. Hero worship is a fatal flaw, and this author might know that, but the headline suggests otherwise.

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Wise Elders" is why we are in this shit show. They "know all" about shit that was wrong even 20 years ago, and hold onto to the feelings of the time (racism) and poison the modern well with those feelings.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago

That's not wisdom.

China, Russia and US.... All lead by the biggest pieces of shit in each respective country....

I wish a sociologist could fully explain to us how humans keep giving power to the least qualified person possible.

You want your car fixed and you'll google and compare and evaluate and get references, yet voting for the guy leading you a simple BS Facebook post will do....

Dumb people have a lot of undeserved confidence, if you're confident then people like you. It's like salesmen.

What do you have against Xi? He is the only one not bombing anyone, not meddling in any country internal affairs, and focusing in his own country and people.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, except for all the belt and road projects that they expect to foreclose and repossess. https://dailymare.com/news/chinese-firms-now-control-over-a-third-of-africas-ports---raising-fears-of-beijings-expanding-global-reach,1269

Ever play Civilization? There are more forms of victory than military. The US is going for cultural, China is going for economic.

[–] Cochise@lemmy.eco.br 1 points 20 hours ago

The US is going for cultural by bombing the hell of the world and having military bases and aircraft carriers enought to call the whole world his backyard? Well. Maybe it's correct. Only a ton of propaganda to make someone to believe US is not a military mogul and instead is going for a "cultural victory".

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

And stupid voters. Don't forget the stupid apathetic voters.

It is in the hands of the the worst pieces of human shit that could be found.

Sorry, overlooked the “opinion” part of the sidebar. Feel free to remove.

I don’t think it’s too polarising, though.

[–] Naich@lemmings.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It might be an opinion piece but that summary is 100% true.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

It’s missing “idiotic” in the description, somewhere, though.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

The world's always needed wise leaders.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Old Men... are the future.

[–] Karrion409@lemmy.world 4 points 19 hours ago

I understand the sentiment behind the statement but rn we need young progressives at the forefront more than anything.

[–] valkyrieangela@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 10 hours ago

Wisdom never correlates with age. That old adage needs to die.
