“Everyone feels like a fool and regrets the decision. I personally didn’t vote in the last election, and neither did my parents. At this point, I believe there are bad people on the left and the right,” Gardner said.

Jesus fucking Christ still a fucking centrist shitting on the "left" even as the State kidnapped your fucking husband.

Despite this, Free Ribvar Karimi and free all people kidnapped by ICE. He sucks but he doesn't deserve this—because no one deserves this!

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 122 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Americans are the most brainwashed people on the planet. The right wing state can literally disappear your family and you still shit talk the left.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 88 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Reminder that Fox News was created in the wake of Watergate specifically because media coverage of the scandal went from non-existent to shifting public opinion against it in weeks. It was created to be a dedicated Republican party propaganda platform to prevent that from ever happening again.

[–] radix@lemmy.world 46 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Nixon aides wanted a pro-administration network, and some of them were eventually instrumental in getting Fox News going, but it took over 20 years between Watergate and the launch of FNC.

I really wanna say you’re wrong and I really can’t. All I can ask is that you please not lump us all together into one homogeneous group. There are quite a few of us who are actually sane.

[–] Enoril@jlai.lu 23 points 2 days ago (4 children)

We know that.

But that didn't stop ALL the german being called nazi after WWII and all being appalled by their (in)action and the pain their nation did to others.

I had a German colleague apologizing to me for his ancestors actions (who killed some family members at my grandparents generation). None of us were born when that happened but he wanted to say it as he was ashamed by his grandparents (in)actions. I was sad for him because he didn't do anything wrong but he was taking the weight of his nation history personally.

Do you want to do that or - more probably - do you want your children to do that later? They will ask for forgiveness to the descendants of the people impacted today saying: "I'm sorry that my parents didn't do anything to stop that"

Because your ICE gestapo-like state organization is doing appalling actions TODAY in plain sight. And you - as Americans - will be remembered as people who lets this happen.

Yep. That already happened. So we know.

Bitch, Obama didn't kidnap your husband. AOC didn't kidnap your husband. Bernie didn't kidnap your husband. Mamdani didn't kidnap your husband. Trump did.

No, he DOES deserves this for providing aid and comfort to a person so terrible they support Trump. Leopards, faces, and wow looks like this is posted in the spot on right place.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

can we settle on nobody deserves this, but given it’s happening he’s among the most deserving?

My eyes almost rolled all the way out of my head reading this article. The dude is from IRAN, and this blindsided them.

To be clear, it sounds like this dude is a loving family man and member of the community, and he did not deserve this. And even if he was a scumbag, we don't use secret police to deal with scumbags.

But sometimes it hurts to have the depth of some people's oblivious ignorance revealed so starkly. Some other comments have already pointed out the stupid "golly I think there might be bad people on the left AND the right!" conclusion at the end of the article. But here's another gem from in the middle:

“My husband himself, even being from Iran, supported Trump, his immigration policies, and understood he was trying to protect the American people and was praying he helped free the Iranian people,” Gardner told Newsweek.

These people look at an elderly hateful narcissist of a grifter and parasite, and hear his messages of hate and division and exclusion, and apparently the image formed in their dusty brains is Captain Fucking Planet!

[–] blarth@thelemmy.club 64 points 2 days ago (6 children)

I’m so extremely puzzled by it. I cannot fathom what it is that’s so alluring about Donald Trump. The guy is a total asswipe.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's the "I don't give a fuck" attitude he has. His fan base thinks that leader material. They think compromise and humility are weak. They like that he doesn't care for people. They believe he cares for them and all his hate spew is towards everyone else but them.

I am convinced I will go to my grave with this being the most frustrating piece of knowledge missing from my life. It defies logic to the point that I've had to adjust my perspective on humanity to account for it.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Cippola explains it

These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:

  1. Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

  2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

  3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

  4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

  5. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

That is how the other narcissistic morons always describes one of their own. During covid there were so many obituaries about these "loving family people" who had died from being unvaccinated, and when you checked their social media history it consisted of nothing but heinous hateful memes.

“My heart is broken,” Gardner told the outlet. “Our baby shower is going to be next weekend, and he’s not going to be at home to go to that with me.”

Oh, don't you worry about that, ICE will show up and detain that baby.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 17 points 3 days ago

ICE will show up and detain that baby.

I heard they got the protip from the Commander in Chief himself. You just grab 'em by the pussy and that baby ain't goin' nowhere!

I think in history there has never been a quicker demonstration of "if you support fascists they will eventually come for you too". Dude has been in the office for couple months and is already rounding up his supporters lol

A couple of months? I reflexively thought No, it must be a couple years already.
Damn, those were long months.

My only joy in these times of the orange shit stain, is these magats getting pounded.

It might be petty and small of me, but I don't give a shit.

You vote for Trump once... I can kind of excuse it as stupid... You vote for him twice and you're just an evil fucker and I have zero sympathy left.

[–] geekgrrl0@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Some of them voted for him 3 times even, wild! My father and brother are in this category. I do not speak to them. I'm gay and my daughter is trans and they voted for that asswipe three times!

Leopards: "NomNom"

[–] TempermentalAnomaly@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (5 children)

It amazes me that these articles keep appearing and the Democrats are unable to leverage this into votes. Writing these people as stupid is useless. We still have to win elections with a large population of stupid people.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (5 children)

You cannot leverage this into votes. You regularly read "Trump killed my business/sent my spouse to Neverland/whatever, but I will vote for him again!". Those people can't be helped.

Gardner is seven months pregnant, but remains hopeful that her husband will be with her when she gives birth.

“My heart is broken,” Gardner told the outlet. “Our baby shower is going to be next weekend, and he’s not going to be at home to go to that with me.”

He’s missing the baby shower?? You should tell ICE, maybe they’ll release him.

I understand that they’ve got a job to do, immigration, but I just feel like he was specifically targeted because of what’s going on where he’s from, his home country,

Isn't that true for most of the immigrants

BREAKING NEWS! This Just In!

"Republicans are shocked at any one at any time being detained indefinitely after intentionally empowering and assembling a large militant force who operates purely extrajudicially without due process. We've got Tom live on the scene to ask one of them about this development, Tom?"

"Tell the camera what you just told me a moment ago, please."

"Well I don't think that's what due process means, they still go to see an immigration court, don't they?"

"No."

"Well, they should."

"Maybe you should vote for somebody who makes that happen."

"Like Donald Trump?"

"Wrong again."

“We have been saying we are getting the worst of the worst out—and we are. We don’t wait until a military operation to execute; we proactively deliver on President Trump’s mandate to secure the homeland,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

These people are so evil. Hopefully someday they all get their just desserts from a Nuremberg-style trial.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

10000% pure copium. The fascists will NEVER see any semblance of justice unless YOU, PERSONALLY dedicate your life to making it happen. And even then, it isn't likely unless millions of other Americans accept their individual responsibility as a citizen to do the same.

THAT is the level of effort required to bring a society back after it has allowed its democratic institutions to fail.

She doesn't seem like the best catch.

“He brought happiness back to me, and taught me what it is like to be loved correctly,” Gardner wrote on the site. “He encouraged me, and still encourages me each and every day. He sees the best in me, and never has given up, despite how difficult I can be sometimes.”

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 26 points 3 days ago
