Good day everyone.

My wife was wondering if anyone recommends any kind of weighted stuffed animal. Her therapist said it could help ground herself, but she has no clue what is a good quality and a good weight.

Weighted Wildlife. They specify how much each one weighs on their site. I have an opossum from them and I love her. She's one of my favorite plushies (don't tell the others I said that though). They've also got some 5lbs dragons in the works.

Creep Cat Toy Company also makes some weighted plushies like the raccoon and opossum, and the weighted ones come with a zipper in the belly so you can, remove, or move the weighted bean bags around.

Awesome! Thank you for the recommendations! Passing this on to her.

My 300lb nephew washes his feet once every 29th of February and loves to cuddle. We can send the animal over if you like.

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

LOL that sounds sweet in one way and really not what we're looking for in many many other ways. lol thank you though.

So are we sending him over or what? Gotta take him now before he starts on the ozempic and then all you got is flabby skin and smelly feet.

I think we're good for now. Thank you though! :-D

Weighted snake stuffy. She can drape it over he shoulders to simulate deep pressure.

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Do you have any kind of links to weighted snakes? That sounds like a great idea.

Definitely one of the oddest questions asked here yet.

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago

lol but it sparked conversation didn't it? :-) It takes all kinds and I LOVE our little weird piece of the internet. :-D

it is actually not so easy to find one that is really heavy. The Moonpal are supercute and kinda the heaviest. For everything else I would turn to Etsy and buy from a person with sewing skills. There is someome sewing Manta-Rochen (sorry don't know the english name) and Octopus if I remember correctly that are extra heavy. Sorry these are just clues for your search because I can't remember 😅

I was looking for a good one for a long time (ended up with a weighted blanket)

I know Manta ray is an animal, but not sure if you're commenting on that? :-)

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

I'll pass this on to her. And we have a weight blanket on our bed, but it's a bit too heavy to lug around the house. lol

Wouldnt a regular stuffed animal modified with a small packet of small steel/lead balls achieve the same thing?

*Assuming you can make a decent job sewing it.

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didn't even consider making one. Looking it up it definitely seems doable. I wouldn't want metal balls really, but places recommend things lime hemp for plastic beads or something. Thank you for the suggestion.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didnt have any better idea for weighty inserts xD
But good that I could imbue some inspiration :)

[–] Graphy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Pie weights should be easy to buy in stores and probably aren’t made of lead lol

The weight distribution could be difficult to get right, they're weighted everywhere. Target has a few I've been tempted by, they're cute and soft, but I can't in good conscience recommend anyone shop there.

Just cut open a teddy bear and put a 25lb weight in it

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I suggested I rip open numerous teddy bears, sew them all together into a teddy bear suit and have the kids walk around in it. But she said that's too creepy for some reason. :-D

[–] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

I think Cosco sells those

Cement Cuddlers; may be hard to find, but they’re made by a small company named Brutal Truth Toys.

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

I'll pass this on to her. Thank you! :-)

[–] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I suggest Elephant. Good weight!

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago

Do you suggest a manufacturer or seller or anything?

[–] Jikiya@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4JE3SA Got that for my daughter. Can be put in the microwave for a warm experience, and I seem to remember it smelling of lavender when heated.

May want to consider going the DIY route: https://plushthis.com/blogs/how-to/how-to-make-weighted-stuffed-animals

My kids had a lot of fun with stuffed bears and dogs from Ikea. On several occasions, I had to re-stuff them (to comedic swole effect) with fill from craft stores. Pretty easy.

oh that's awesome! thank you for the recommendation!
