He knew. Everyone knew. He's playing this card so the yelling stops.

Just like giving a toddler throwing tantrum their way just to shut them up. It doesn't actually work in the long run and just make the problem worse.

This is so stupid, it is a reconciliation bill. There aren't supposed to be any policy related items in it. That is the whole fucking point!

Just wait until they start lying

How is that not impeachable, or can we sue them for not doing their job?

aoc did some livestreams after she was elected talking about the day to day of the average congressperson.

their primary job is fundraising . theres a big ranking list posted in their office building with everyones numbers. party members that dont fundraise well enough wont get the party's support in subsequent elections, or will get primaried. no help making ads and getting channels and stations to run them, no help with logistics, or finances. house rules give them 48 hours to read a bill thats usually hundreds to thousands of pages long before voting on it.

Oh so the parties are getting in the way of government & should be held accountable?

[–] tdawg@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I mean it sounds like the answer is yes, but sue the parties instead of the individuals

I think that’s how we get responsible representatives, by holding them individually accountable, same thing with business owners & corporate executives.

If all responsibility can be pawned off onto the institution, all we’ll get is a revolving door of corrupt individuals.

Nah, the system is rigged with fall guys. He's just a hydra head.

[–] kemsat@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s quite the defeatist view.

[–] And009@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Not my view, a bigger change is needed to the system. It'll take another generation to achieve that.

Just how human societies work, good change isn't immediate and usually involves rebellion.

[–] kemsat@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Every act of insurrection adds up, to the eventual rebellion. I like to stay more positive as a result.

And we hope that'll inspire someone else to do the same :)

If the USA gets an overhaul, we will need rules about those things. My thoughts:

1: Dividing up the funds raised equally across party members. Those who don't want their funds, puts it back into the general pool to be spread out again.

2: Deals for adtime must give an equal spread of time across all members, and as before, can be repooled if someone doesn't want their time.

3: Increasing the voting time to a week, and putting limits on the word count of bills. Comprehensive bills can be chunked into smaller billettes, individually voted on.

4a: Reduce the amount of recess time that congress has. They get too much for what little they do...

5b: Alternatively, congress can have recess, but they have elected backups who can vote in their place. Say, for example, the runner-ups in a election get to be "Vice Congressman", who get to vote on bills when the main congressional isn't doing their job.

these guys can be recalled via paper ballots… but you need a lot of signatures

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 13 points 3 weeks ago

“Don’t call me a fascist I’m an American!” As if the two are exclusive.

[–] SattaRIP@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, vote harder... Everyone is so fucked.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 3 points 3 weeks ago
