Shout out to fans that never break even though you user them for years

It's actually a lot more intensive to be turning the fan on and off, so keeping it running is just good maintenance

Hunter Original for the win... Had mine for 22 years, my Mom has my grandmother's of 71 years, both still working

My wife needs one of those. We've had multiple fans die on us, and then the replacement always makes a slightly different drone which drives her nuts until she's used to it

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 32 points 5 days ago

The various spellings of vidya always get a nose exhale laugh.

The best part is this is the relaxation zen.

So it’s a thing huh? Every night I play a video game while watching a tv show and listening to a podcast

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Are you able to actually consume the material? Can you follow along all three?

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes, though it depends on the material. I don’t watch shows I have never seen, I tend to rewatch stuff a lot. Also I tend to drop the podcast if the game im playing calls for it, currently I’m playing Alan wake 2 so I like to be more focused while playing a game like that.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You have the sound on for all three normally or is it like, audio from podcast, video from show on second monitor, then main focus is game? I can't imagine the cacophony otherwise.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I have audio on all 3 to varying degrees depending on what I am focusing on most at that time. Some games you have to make the primary audio, but more casual games you don’t. but recently I’ve been watching old 80s and 90s wrestling so you don’t need that on full blast. I retain everything on the pods i listen to and it’s the only way I can put in gaming hours

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Alright, cool.

recently I’ve been watching old 80s and 90s wrestling

😂 Alright! Is that an old interest or is it just for shits?

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I tried watching modern wrestling and realized how much I hate it compared to the older stuff, so I decided to do a rewatch of wwf and wcw from as early as possible till around 2000 when it all died. Lots of hilarious shit in there that would not pass censor now

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

😄 I see. Thanks for chatting! Take care, friend.

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I have the TV on and something on my phone when I play a game. Is it ADHD or just brain rot?

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

😆 k, gotcha 👍 It's just comfort noise then?

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No clue. I guess I just like background noise

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Haha I am deeply in need of a change. At this point I can't get anything done without my ADHD meth. I don't like it.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

❤️ Maybe there's help to get?

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thanks friend. I work with a Psychiatrist and a Therapist.

Once I got my ADHD diagnosis things got a bit better on the attention front. And my depression drugs are helping a bit.

Wish there was a magic cure.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Man... Yeah, me too.

Just know you have a purpose. Keep trucking! 💪🤟

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

♥️ thank you. Needed that today

[–] einfach_orangensaft@sh.itjust.works 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah the fan checks out, cant be without the hum, no sound means dead servers that aint good so there needs the be humming

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

I wish it was just humming, but it's more of a reeeee

[–] ZeffSyde@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I feel bad because when I game watch videos on another screen while the game is muted on the other.

Hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars wasted on voice acting and sound design. Most of the stuff I play isn't immersive, though, more narrative driven/puzzle based.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 9 points 5 days ago

I could never do that

(I have audio sensitivities)

[–] CreatingMachines@fedia.io 8 points 5 days ago

hey wait a minute

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

The whirr of a fan is regular and unchanging, which helps drown out irregular noises. Irregular noises are hell.

[–] killeronthecorner@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

ADHD havers 🤝 Tinnitus sufferers

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

We have pretty bad thunder storms around where I live, so my fans get turned off every now and then. Since two of them have digital switches I have to turn them back on once the power is back on

[–] catharso@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

there must be a way to "boot" those on "power on" 🤔

i hate that about my air-purifier. i wish it had an old-school manual switch and not those fucking modern touch buttons.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 1 points 5 days ago

3 reasons why I need the fans running all the time

  1. keep the air moving, also two of the fans 1 in the bedroom and 1 in the "computer room" are fans with filters on them to keep the air cleaner during wildfire season.
  2. I have a huge Dewalt fan pointed the specially made cabinet I keep my PC and server in that keeps the air moving through the cabinet (that's the fan with the analog switch, a twisty switch. I even had my boddy weld together some aluminum sheets together to make sure all the air that big fan moves goes into that cabinet and then out the top for maximum heat dissipation...but there's some computer fans on top pulling air up and out that continue to run even when the power goes out and my two bigass UPS power supplies have to do their thing
  3. I'm hearing impaired and my ears ring really loud without the fans running.
[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I'll watch 4 or more videos that I'll jump between tabs of on my PC, but I'll only have one playing at a time. Watch one for like 5 minutes, attentions lulls, switch to another. Later, the attention for one of the others increases, so I'll jump back to it.

It's like...staggered consumption. My attention is weird.

[–] proton_lynx@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

My girlfriend complains when I turn on the fan when we go to sleep. Can't sleep without it

[–] AWistfulNihilist@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

The craziest shit about getting on an SNRI as opposed to an amphetamine based med was how quiet my space is compared to before.

[–] Goltbrook@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Just reached for the fan remote while seeing this.

I just like to feel the wind in my hair.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee -2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You mean normie brain?

I can't split my attention across 5 pieces of media like that; I can only focus on one thing at a time. Cause, you know, I have ADHD.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Different people deal with the lack of focus from ADHD differently. For some of us, being able to constantly swap between activities lessens the mental strain caused by ADHD. For others, having multiple things to do allows them to focus on one of them.

You can tell when my viboe game gets serous because I pause my emotional support YouTube video.

Yeah, that's why sandbox games are great cause you can watch something longform while solving puzzles. I also got through a lot of house while putting together miniatures...
