It's always shocking how much worse these look in person.

Like photography cannot capture how stupid these monstrosities look

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 51 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They trigger a special gag reflex you didn’t know was there

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago

It makes me laugh. The side view driving amongst other vehicles is especially funny.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 4 points 19 hours ago

And a reflex reaction from a specific finger.

[–] m0darn@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They look awful. Slightly less awful when wrapped, but I heard that Tesla fucked up the bonding surface for wraps or something so they're basically unremovable, but will deteriorate with age.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 5 points 11 hours ago

its also a 7000lb death trap and charcuterie machine.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Every time I see one I find something else that makes it revolting. It’s absolutely horrific.

I'm both glad and disappointed I haven't seen one in Europe. I feel like I'm missing out on a circus tour.

[–] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 4 points 23 hours ago

Especially from the front or back. It's hard to even comprehend that it's a car. I was very shocked the first time I saw one.

I feel like I have seen way too many on the road for only 3000 to have been sold.

Maybe I have a lot of dipshits living near me?

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 66 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Gotta be hyperbole, or an old post. Google says 39,000.

[–] Mpatch@lemmy.world 14 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Can you imagine. Putting together an entire assembly line. Logistics. Parts outsourcing. From the die stamp machine with tolerances of 0.0001" to make those shitty stainless steel bodies to how many rolls of toilet paper there should be in each stall, or the type of soap in the luch room. All those intricate details. To only sell 39,000 of those shitboxes.

[–] superkret@feddit.org 5 points 11 hours ago

Tesla probably skipped half that, the die stamp machine is from a dumpster in Detroit and employees are expected to shit at a Starbucks during their break.

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 8 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I've seen one in the non capitol or metro area in Canada I live in, though there is money here since it's nice. So yeah I figured there must be more out there than the post said. First one I've seen in person, it look liked it belonged in a B movie, I couldn't help but laugh. I do think it's a good thing for people try and pollute less of course, just not want to give more money to the Nazi born having already won the game of life.

[–] Genius@lemmy.zip 11 points 18 hours ago

Musk is defunding the EPA. Giving 100 grand to that turtlesack doesn't count as "polluting less" in my book.

Same. I see one everyday minimum. I saw two in one parking lot once. I have probably seen up to 5 in a day before.

Is this an old post? Because over 46 thousand have been sold as of March.

Still, that's not helluva lot considering the global or even countrywide population. Had to look it up because if they really did only ever sell 3000 of them, then a significant portion of those buyers live around me.

[–] lightsblinken@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

46 thousand ... where? maybe 3000 in their town?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 33 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (10 children)

Once or twice every decade a clown car gets released and a handful of dipshits buy them and become the red-headed stepchildren of our roadways. The butt of jokes. Cautionary tales.

Ford Pinto

Pontiac Aztek

Chrysler PT Cruiser

Tesla Cybercuck

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 20 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

I would 100% drive a convertible PT Cruiser and I'd do it with pride 😄 I mean it absolutely is a silly car but like in a self aware way if that makes sense

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

It's a hot tub on wheels

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago

They're very hard to kill and you can jam the srt4 motor into them without crazy amounts of work.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 4 points 18 hours ago

Omg Aunt Janet?! Lol.

I joke but my dream car is an El Camino.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago

Don't sleep on the Delorean! Those things were the laughing stock of America before Back to the Future made them cool again. Funny enough, they had many of the same problems Musk's stainless steel, uh, thing, has.

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The Pinto is a bit different as they were useful, reasonably priced, and fairly popular. If hadn't ended up with that combination of bumper and gas tank placement, the model name would probably still be going strong.

Don’t forget the Chevy Avalanche.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 4 points 23 hours ago

I always thought that and a friend who’s a truck guy was like “no, they’re actually pretty great.”

I'm in a very liberal city and I have seen a few of these with business logos plastered all over them. It's like they are advertising that you shouldn't use their business.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

Yup. There's an urgent care near me that has a wrapped swastikar out front. I think I would rather die than go there.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There is one in our area, but I only ever saw it parked and empty until recently. When I finally ran across it on pulling out of a parking lot, I got a look and the driver and he looks like a bootleg RFK Jr.

I'll never understand why the design of this thing so unlike all of the other vehicles in the Tesla lineup. It's soooo fugly.

[–] ysjet@lemmy.world 11 points 21 hours ago

All of his companies have people whose job it is to distract Elon musk when he tries to get involved. Tesla's must have been on vacation or something.

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 7 points 17 hours ago

Because this thing was Musk's pet project.

There’s an appalling number of local dipshits in Austin. I see a couple wankpanzers a day.

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 8 points 22 hours ago

Ive seen at least 4 or 5. Kinda wild there are that many suckers driving around

[–] tophneal@sh.itjust.works 6 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

We have a few I've seen around. one in particular was seemingly bought, vinyl wrapped, and parked in a busy lot to advertise some restaurant that's not even nearby 🤦‍♂️ It probably wouldn't even start now. It hasn't moved in several months and there's no chargers near it in that lot lol

I was in the Irvine area a while ago and the parking lot had not one, not two, but three cyber trucks. Each one was more of a surprise than the last.

There's a couple of dozen of them in the area where I work...

Several of them have wraps. 😒
