That's not centipede, I counted only 17x2=34 legs! Its thirtyfour-pede

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

This guy pedes!

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 0 points 1 week ago

Well, to be fair, a centurion commanded les than one hundred people..

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is it a hot dog when it’s neither cooked or in a bun??

[–] TwentySeven@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Yes. You are describing a sandwich, not a hot dog.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Depending on your definition of 'bun', the centipede could be the bun here.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Needs more fur to be a bun.

~~Scolopendra subspinipes~~

~~...the species is known by many common names, including jungle centipede, orange-legged centipede, Hawaiian centipede, and Vietnamese centipede.~~

~~...it is also found on virtually all land areas around and within the Indian Ocean, all of tropical and subtropical Asia from Russia to the islands of Malaysia and Indonesia, Australia, South and Central America, the Caribbean islands, and possibly parts of the southern United States...~~

I think it's actually Scolopendra alternans because the one pictured has only 4 segments on it's antennae, but subspinipes has many.

Scolopendra alternans is a species group found in the whole Caribbean island and northern South America, with the Florida population reevaluated as a distinct species Scolopendra longipes.[1] They have also been reported as far north as Georgia.

Knowledgeable identification of an insect from the photo with cited reasoning: nice.

Dick joke : 4x the upvotes.

It's not an insect.

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Centipedes are the absolute worst of the worst in terms of disturbing insects. I can't even look at one without my brain vividly simulating the way all of those crispy little legs would feel clinging along the length of my arm.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Like the stretched limo of a beetle. But also with the most horriblist type of spider legs

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Imagine how they’d all feel making purchase on your soft throat tissue as it forces its way down your throat

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

I saw a video once of a giant centipede devouring a live mouse, and it still fucks with me every time I think of it. I still remember that mouse's eyes.

🤓uhm ackhtually centipedes are not insects but are members of a different group of arthropods called Myriapods, along with everyone's favorite detritivores the millipedes

edit for additional infodumping: their venom injecting apparatuses are modified legs called forcipules or toxicognaths, and they are the only known animal with such features.

[–] CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (3 children)

My favorite myriapod is Arthropleura. Imagine a millipede the length of a car!

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Have you ever gotten to see one IRL?

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 6 days ago

no, I don't think I will.

"Arthropleura (Greek for 'jointed ribs') is an extinct genus..."

Thank fuck

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Looks like a dick with a toupe

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

No I'm a dick with a full head of flowing lovely hair

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 0 points 1 week ago

Hmm... very mammalian.

Thank you for reminding me that Lemmy needs a "Fierce Flow" community, for men with long hair to celebrate their amazing locks.

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dude I remember visiting the Caribbean, a car ran over one of these lengthwise and it was badly injured but alive.

Where the what the fuck??m

[–] Flocklesscrow@lemm.ee 0 points 4 days ago

The car was alive?

[–] Nounka@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Not a clue.... But it is his hotdog/sossage/wiener now.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 0 points 1 week ago

The kind that killed an idiot mukbang streamer in China.

[–] snailboy@lemm.ee 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

For a second I thought this said "Hotdog for Sale".

No, I would not purchase it.

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Gicho is a delicacy, you shouldn't turn your nose up at it.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

I'm more worried about that thing turning up my nose.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

I do understand why they want to sell it thought.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

Wow I sure don't like that:(

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 0 points 6 days ago

Not my proudest fap.

[–] WhatSay@slrpnk.net 0 points 6 days ago

That's an exotic condiment

[–] mariusafa@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 6 days ago
