Summary

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker urged Democrats to protest nationwide so "Republicans cannot know a moment of peace" during a New Hampshire speech.

His call for mass mobilization drew standing applause but ignited outrage from MAGA supporters. Elon Musk called the remarks "crazy," while conservatives accused Pritzker of inciting violence and even treason.

Pritzker also criticized Democrats for political timidity, asserting “the reckoning is finally here.”

His fiery tone fueled speculation about a 2028 presidential bid as he seeks re-election in Illinois next year.

Protesting is not treason. Treason is the reason for the protests.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 58 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Treason is the reason for the season.

[–] BrazenSigilos@ttrpg.network 14 points 6 hours ago

The hills will ring with the sounds of the season! Probably the sound of guillotines!

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

I’ve yet to receive a check from George Soros, yet Elon is running around writing checks left and right. I’d call hypocrisy, but words are wind to whiny abusers like him. Once you flout their power they have nothing but tantrums to throw.

[–] BedSharkPal@lemmy.ca 28 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

The thing that freaks me out is Elon called that cave diver a pedo. Well every accusation is a confession with these people...

[–] bender223@lemmy.today 13 points 5 hours ago

Yeah, I'm 99.999999999% sure that all billionaires are pedos. It's just a matter of how well they hide it.

[–] Gregg@lemm.ee 9 points 5 hours ago

Well yeah. Karate lessons with Ghislaine Maxwell was obv Gi optional

Elon is running around writing checks left and right

Mostly right.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 51 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Why am I seeing headlines about the MAGA reaction to the thing instead of the thing itself?

[–] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 42 points 4 hours ago
  • Media is suppressing news on protests.
  • Protests are happening by my town's City Hall, so I know they're going on.
[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 32 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Do it J.B. I want him to do for this nation what he's done for Illinois. I'm not a fan of billionaires in general, but Pritzker has been absolutely amazing for Illinois. I could not ask for a better candidate.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 11 points 6 hours ago

yup. did not vote for him in the first primary but after one term I voted for him with enthusiasm thereafter.

[–] fuzzyspudkiss@midwest.social 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I always assumed he was doing a great job because all I've heard people in rural Illinois and Indiana do is bitch about how he's ruining Illinois.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, that's always a big flag, isn't it?

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 30 points 6 hours ago

To be clear Musk isn't leaving, he's working from home...

... he's doing so to keep a low profile because the bad press are costing him money and influence.

THINK about it: These people are in it for money and power. When they start losing money and power, they back off.

Because that's the whole point for them, that's their game.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

It always blows my mind that Pritzker seems to be consistently on the right side of history. Have we done it? Have we found the mythical 'good' billionaire? 'cuz he's done a pretty great job as governor of my state and I'll happily vote for him again if I get the chance.

[–] loie@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

*Doubt

He's a governor from Illinois. Be neither disappointed nor surprised should he find himself in prison. They've got an impressive track record for picking future felons.

[–] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 hours ago

He may not be perfect, though it does look like he has a strong interest in supporting the common man.

And yes, I'll definitely be voting for him again. I want to reward that kind of behavior.

Ketamine Karen pitches fit on the platform he bought for this very purpose...

BFD. Let him rant.

Anyone still on Xitter to witness it is a fool. 🤷‍♂️ 🤡 🙄 🖕

PROTESTING is TREASON!

-Americans who LOVE Defending School Shooters AND the Deportation of Legal Americans to Concentration Camps WITHOUT Due Process!

[–] Lenny@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 hours ago

Reminder: they’re looking for a reason to enact Martial Law and ‘legally’ deploy US troops against it’s citizens. Painting what is likely to be peaceful protests as “crazies inciting violence” before they’ve even ramped up is a purposeful decision.

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 15 points 6 hours ago

It's responses such as these from Sieg Heiling Spare Karen and the Nazis that demonstrate how protesting is, in fact, very helpful for the people.

I've been very excited about hitting the streets and I'll carry on.

[–] antisocialite@lemmy.today 13 points 6 hours ago

Rich coming from MAGA.

[–] lemmylommy@lemmy.world 13 points 5 hours ago

A governor: take to the streets! The media: let’s report on how Trumps boss feels about it.

[–] Guidy@lemmy.world 10 points 5 hours ago

And barring anything else this is absolutely enough for me to vote for the guy in the next election. I’m sick of do-nothing democrats being all milquetoast.

A democratic leader calling for action? Wanting more? Standing up for what’s right? Yes please, and thank you!

[–] AnalogNotDigital@lemmy.wtf 8 points 5 hours ago

The declaration of independence literally tells the people to take apart a government that is no longer working for the people.

Not that any of the republicans in congress actually have read such documents.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 hours ago

My parents said they’ve been attending protests…I said that’s great but have you been in contact with your congress critters?…They don’t even know who their rep is…The boomers need a direct education in direct democracy, because they have been de-educated and effectively neutralized on this account.

[–] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Id like Elon to explain why the remaeks are crazy.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

Because they're true and he has no real response. Is child (and evil). Reacts as such.

[–] bender223@lemmy.today 3 points 4 hours ago

Right wingers and MAGA cry and whine so hard 🤣

[–] Kurious84@eviltoast.org 2 points 4 hours ago

Wonder if we'll ever know they were all working for Russia thanks to Epstein island.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

What's he whining about? He's not going to be impeached.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 6 hours ago

Love Pritzker.
