On the other hand, the middle of an existential war against something like Russia is no time for a fair democratic election, which is difficult enough in this age of godawful social media algorithms, even in someplace geographically removed like the United States.

As they quoted a Ukrainian journalist, "we feel trapped"

To be fair, that bar is so low it's 6 feet underground. And, once putin joins it, I'd be glad to have normal democratic elections. Or go to protests if Zelenskyy actually overstays his welcome. So far, that's not what's happening.
