Recovering addict here. Drugs make you feel very, VERY good, and that's why they're so hard to quit.

[–] dumbass@piefed.social 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I quit taking street drugs because a street drug convinced me not to take them anymore.

Took a bunch of acid and it just kept telling me to stop taking so much drugs, every time and it wouldn't be once, it was just randomly start telling me why I need to quit drugs, it was weird and only acid, mushies just made me love everything, acid had my back. I'm sober because LSD cared enough to convince me.

I think that LSD takes away your ability to ignore things. That applies to things around you, hence the feeling of enhanced perception – your brain no longer filters out all the things cracks in the sidewalk that you normally ignore. This is independent from the hallucinations, of course.

But it also applies to all those thoughts you've been ignoring. Hence the life-changing insights people report having; in your case I think you were subconsciously aware that you should quit drugs but didn't want to confront that thought. LSD made you confront it.

(By the way, that's also why I think people with unresolved trauma should be very careful around LSD. Being forced to deal with your repressed shit all at once can go very badly depending on what you're repressing.)

Ooooh yeah it can, I had to ban my housemate from acid because he had a reeeeeaaal fuckin bad trip, some core memories unlocked that night.

One time I had a bad shroom trip and I was like "Please just let me go back to normal....I'll do anything....I'll work hard and study...."

The weirdest fucking thing is that my roommate was saying the exact same thing out loud. He was basically narrating my internal monologue. And we didn't even take the same amount. Very fucking weird indeed

Yep. My closest male friend besides my brother quit everything besides weed (alcohol included!) and he was addicted to crack and all sorts of substances. He might be the strongest man I know.

i just can't give up the ganja. actually i have no choice but to give it up now because i'm poor as fuck, and also, i just got over a manic episode, so my dad watches my money like a hawk to make sure i don't go on any wild spending sprees. that also means no cash withdrawals (my dad isn't stupid, he knew i was only taking cash out of the ATM to buy drugs)

If weed is your only/wildest vice after trying a lot of shit out I think you should be proud of yourself. 👍

[–] alias_qr_rainmaker@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

my two vices are weed and alcohol, i used to be way more addicted to alcohol, now it's the other way around. pretty good deal if you ask me, alcohol withdrawal is WAY worse than cannabis withdrawal. I actually don't feel bad when going off the ganja, it gets easier to focus, I think much more clearly, and it's a lot easier to stay productive.
