to be fair, per the article Chomsky do not seems to be implicated in anything with Epstein.. so the article is pretty suspicious. Remind me who own theguardian?

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 24 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, but Chomsky is someone who has spent decades studying and writing about power structures and media’s involvement in those power structures.

I spent a bunch of my years in college reading and watching his Noam’s shit. The fact that he was chilling with this dude, especially after he pled guilty, is a serious WTF moment.

[–] TWeaK@lemmy.today 4 points 14 hours ago

Were they actually chilling together, or was this just written correspondence? Like letters from prison.

Chomsky has always been a piece of shit. He literally spent decades denying genocides and massacres, simping for authoritarians and extremists, and spread misinformation far and wide. I'm honestly not surprised to see him pop up here.

prepare for the wave of leftists and democrats connected to epstein and everything about the gop being scrubbed.
….
and, hot take here: how reasonable is it to expect everyone that knew epstein to have known the circumstances of him soliciting an underage child, or to know that it happened at all?
I’m sure he had a plausible story about it being dark, she was wearing makeup or some bullshit… his very short jail sentence would support any claims of “honest mistake”.
and while i know there was some press about his conviction, did everyone know this?
i’ve never run a background check on anyone i’ve hung out with, nor have i googled their names. Any one of my friends could have an old pedophile conviction i never heard of… i’d like to think i could just tell, but im not actually psychic.
i sure wouldn’t hang around after i knew.

originally that was the problem with the epstein files being released. He tried to connect himself to as many famous people and intellectuals as possible.
now they will all be guilty in the court of public opinion.

The Scott Trust Limited, which is effectively still The Guardian, and was created to guarantee its financial and editorial independence. There's a reason why Snowden went to them specifically to leak his leaks etc.

I believe he chose specific journalists, glen greenwald and a couple journalists from the Washington post.

If the guardian is own by some oligarch with real ties to Epstein, It would make sense to push article on people with weak tie to muddy the plot

[–] sorter_plainview@lemmy.today 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Aah.. I see, I thought you were skeptical of the article. But you were actually expressing confidence in them.

[–] ooli3@sopuli.xyz 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I conflicted. The article doesnt seems to find anything really bad in chomsky and epstein ties.. but then why does it exist then?

[–] sorter_plainview@lemmy.today 3 points 9 hours ago

I think it is because Chomsky's name has been associated with Epstein before this, and when new information popped they reported what is in there. Mainly how Chomsky remained in contact even after knowing the issues of Epstein. I think they did a good job of reporting it properly, instead of sensationalising it, by just explaining the new stuff that is unsealed.
