I started playing when Sacred Stones dropped and Engage just happens to be the one title I haven't tried some version of yet. Fire Emblem has changed.
So uhhhh....wtf am I looking at??
Sommie, the little, uh, thing that lives in a cave in your home base (the Somniel). You feed it and pet it, and it gives you bond fragments you can use to improve your Emblem Rings. Essentially, Engage is a giant crossover event and every Emblem Ring is a different character in the series that gives you different powers in battle.
Yeah, I was as confused as you were when I started Engage. My first game was Three Houses, which feels like the Oppenheimer to Engage's Barbie. Even then, I love Engage so far. At its core it's a very traditional Fire Emblem game, weapon triangle and all.
Oh they brought back weapon triangle? Neat, missed that from the older games.
I wanna play a few more older games before I play Engage to really appreciate the cameos more.
So it's like the dragon-girl in Fates but it actually does something worth doing? Sounds fun enough and is cute, but holy shit does it look so not what I'd expect of this series.
Glad to hear they did another 'look at all the cool gals and guys we done made' after Awakening cause that was a blast (maybe my favorite in the series even?) and even gladder to hear they moved back to more of their older gameplay. I liked Three Houses well enough, but it just wasn't the one for me. The characters were great and the split paths thing was fun, but the mechanical changes just did not hit the notes I want from FE in enough ways that I got burnt out enough on run 2 that I just never tried for a 3rd. I still have no clue what Claude's story looks like lol. Been putting off Engage for that reason, so it's nice to hear they've moved back into form a bit. Will probably be getting a copy after all :)
Just wanted to put my endorsement behind Engage. It definitely has a more traditional FE feel compared to 3H.
I have to go back to it... I'm not huge on the look of the main character, but I remember enjoying the gameplay a bit.
