I don't know how true this is.

I read recently that when Trump's speeches have been translated for non-English speakers, they are wildly different than what he is actually saying.

And when bilinguals translate for them directly, they aren't believed because the literal translation is pants on the head crazy.

This was on a YouTube channel, so it was just some dude and not like an official news source, but back in 2020 I found a Trump speech with German subtitles. Specifically, it was the time Trump said to stop testing for COVID so that there wouldn’t be any cases.

The exact quote is: "If we stopped testing right now, we'd have very few cases, if any."

But the subtitles meant something like “We’ve done the tests and have very few cases.”

So, it completely changed the statement from something utterly stupid and ridiculous to reporting that the US just didn’t have many COVID cases, which was obviously false.
