Slightly off topic, but is there still no viable Minecraft fork?
There is Luanti with the VoxeLibre plugin.
Honestly let the hate come on but I tried it once and I was really surprised how popular it is Here on lemmy because when I tried it out (ok to be fair I only gave it a few minutes) it felt janky and unpolished. I See the potential but voxelibre (or luanti in General) did not feel like a good Mc Alternative.
It is free, yes but its supposed to be mature and even back then when minecraft was a Hobby project by one random swedish dude it didnt feel that bad 💀
Did I have to install extra mods? I think the UI and UX really just didnt Click for me as I was spoiled from minecraft
I can't be bothered to mess with all the Microsoft stuff to install Minecraft these days so I just play Luanti to scratch that itch, it's polished enough for me but my usage is very basic.
Ah more of a builder? At least I didnt like survival personally..
I just build stuff in vanilla solo creative mode yes haha
because Minecraft is not FOSS and nobody wants to risk being sued. you can make a clone, but you can't legally fork Minecraft.
Not sure if fork or reimplementation, but Minetest is in almost all Linux distro's repositories. There's plugins and plenty of community servers.
