Don't get me wrong, he got what he advocated for, I'm certainly not crying or really feeling anything about his death but huh, I guess dude FAFO'ed. I just don't find the "good guy with a gun" comment appropriate here that's all even if a small sliver of me goes "yeah, kinda, yeah" because more than likely that guy is very much not a good guy, probably very mentally ill.

Just my thoughts.

From the bits I saw of the alleged shooter getting arrested, to me it looks like the guy was planning on getting caught. Balding old white men who can shoot like that don't strike me as the type who run away.

EDIT: Waiting for confirmation on whether the actual suspect is caught or not.

Last I saw the shooter is still free, the person originally arrested is not involved and has been released.

Hmm. I guess we'll wait and see.

per AP:

Person taken into custody after Charlie Kirk was shot in Utah is not believed to be shooting suspect, AP source says

[–] MouldyCat@feddit.uk 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A statement released by the university said a “single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody.” A university spokeswoman later told the New York Times that police had determined the person detained earlier was not the shooter, and that no suspect was currently in custody.

Looks like the guy initially arrested turned out to not be involved (maybe just another guy with a high powered rifle? Don't know, must make things hard in the US). Or have they since arrested someone else?

Probably one of those "open carry" dipshits, hanging around to show off his gun, and when someone gets shot, he's the first guy they focus on, giving the real shooter a head start on his escape. Nice job being a witless accomplice.

I completely understand, and I actually wish that I could share your perspective. Unfortunately for my "empathy for all" perspective, I couldn't help but smile when I read that he got shot. Because my mind directly went to the "oh, this is gonna alleviate so much suffering" POV

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago

My reaction:

"Wait, who got shot? Really? Wow. So, what's for dinner?"

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca -4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

“oh, this is gonna alleviate so much suffering”

That's not how these things usually go. Quite the opposite.

I'm adding FAFOed to my lexicon

[–] MightEnlightenYou@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I haven't read about, and am not interested in the shooter.

My opinion is only that the world is better off without Charlie Kirk, nothing else at this point.
