I engage with these people a lot and they just deny and say the strangest things as a response.
“Oh yeah, who started the war then! How dare Trump try and save Ukraine and Russian lives”

  • the last Republican guy I talked to about this

They just keep it going and going, it doesn’t matter what you cite or reference. Like what do we say?

In real life?

Russia invaded Ukraine after annexing Crimea. Russia stole Ukraine land and then invaded what was left.

Then, walk away.

Online?

Russia invaded Ukraine after annexing Crimea and then provide links.

This isn't for the online person, but for people that come after. Don't comment any further.

Not after annexing Crimea. They invaded Ukraine when they stole Crimea.

I agree, but make sure to not make things more complicated for the recepients of this message. Fuzzing about details is a great way to make people think that the overall message is flawed, incomplete or even wrong.

You just don’t engage. It’s impossible to have a conversation with or win an argument with a fool.

You press them to explain the things they say. Just like if someone says a racist or sexist joke, the best response is, "I don't get it, could you explain it to me?."

Our eyes are begging us to stop rolling them.

I've never had luck. It's like reasoning with a toddler and arguing with a brick wall and trying to have discourse with a toy you pull the string on and it just repeats the same 5 things over and over.

They're fucking idiots that have been bred and brainwashed to be scared and fearful and lash out. They're like an angry stray dog, except I believe dogs can be rehabilitated - I don't know if I'm convinced of the same for these people.

I've given up. When I realize I'm talking to a MAGAt, just disengage as gracefully as possible. If I can't get away, try and change the subject. If it's in a group setting, I might slap a fact-dick on the table once to make a point of opposition as a signal to the group.
