Ya. Honestly, I'm getting pretty close to being done with Lemmy at this point. The way to fight extremism is not with different extremism. Between the hyper purity test Leftists, and the AI=evil absolutists, it feels like there's never any room for constructive discussion anymore. If I even ask a clarifying question about someone's views, even one that I could potentially be swayed towards, the response always comes back as some variation of "You're one of them aren't you!"

hyper purity test Leftists, and the AI=evil absolutists

IMPURE LEFTISTS BAD, AI BAD

UPVOTES NOW OR YOU'RE ONE OF THEM

I like Tildes for more nuanced conversations. It has the reply box all the way at the bottom of threads, which is a subtle discouragement of replying before reading the existing comments. It's also just smaller and slower paced. It's not immune to pile-on bubble-views, but it's significantly toned down.

There is no such thing as "leftist extremism" especially in the united states. It's also not "purity testing" to want to not kill homeless and trans people.

You proved his point, arguing against his point.

That's some real lack of self awareness.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What point of his did I "prove"?

That your vapid contrarianism in willful ignorance of the commenter's thesis is yet another example of the self-righteous, performative and banal virtue signalling infecting communications in this age at every level, in every medium, from every side.

It's feeding the philosophical and metaphysical simulacra created by techno-feudalists that provide the foundation to rule with impunity.

If "perfect is the enemy of good", the billionaires want the slaves performing purity tests of all varieties to distract from a common goal.

Show us where and how that's happening in CA then.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or yes Newsom's widespread destruction of homeless camps surely has no consequences on that community and his support of transphobic rhetoric surely doesn't contribute to massive trans suicide and murder rates how could I think otherwise? /S

So what youre saying is you can't provide evidence and are only relying on your feelings?

Crazy.

Thank you for doing this legwork for me. I was too hung over this morning to deal with liberal fascist enabling stupidity myself.

The first two links are different outlets reporting on the exact same study, which talks about a nationwide increase in death rates, not just California, and both have this quote from the study author early in the article:

Some of the increase in the mortality rate may be attributable to county death records keeping better track of who is homeless, Fowle said. Other than that, he and his team aren’t sure what else is behind the rising death rates — more research is needed, he said.

The third link is entirely about efforts to have better reporting, in order to figure out what policies might help. It has no policy recommendations or criticisms of current policy.

The fourth and fifth links are about suicide rates among transgender people nationally, not specific to California.

I am not tracking how any of these reflect on specific policies advocated for by Newsom.

Its too bad most of the studies provided happened before Newsom was elected
