Pictured from distribution Center in Baldwin Park, CA. They’ve been flying this flag for years. This hasn’t gotten much attention but In n out also was anti-vax and anti-lockdown during COVID. The CEO also recently went on a right wing podcast to announce they’re moving the HQ to Tennessee but backed out after getting backlash. They would wave the MAGA flag if they knew they wouldn’t get in trouble for it but are ‘softballing’ with the Don’t Tread On Me flag.

Anyone who still thinks the flag isn’t right wing and is meant to represent anti tyranny clearly hasn’t been paying attention to politics the last few years. This is the same way the Swastika was a symbol for peace , it was co opted by Nazis. I personally will stop eating at In-N-Out. Will save me some calories at least.

ChickFila does and it is wild to me that so many people don't care.

Gotta say, the only reason I ever buy CFA is because my son has a gluten and dairy allergy and they are legit one of the only fast food places that have GF Fries and an entree that will suffer a young kid’s palette.

This is why these awful companies maintain customers. You think "yeah they're bad, but my convenience" and give them your money.

Probably a bit of a milquetoast reply, but there is NO FUCKING ETHICAL CONSUMPTION UNDER CAPITALISM.

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Let my son enjoy shit that you take for granted.

[–] techt@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I don't think that's what milquetoast means, but maybe I missed the sarcasm (sorry). Saying no ethical consumption exists under capitalism isn't really making any kind of point in response to that -- just trying to understand here, but are you saying that for that reason, all consumption is equally ethical? That might be more interesting to talk about, and less thought-terminating. I hope your kid is doing well; I know how restrictive that diet can be.

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

Sarcasm intended haha. But also it’s not a new argument and is oft repeated when purity tests come up.

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

It's more that basically anyone in a capitalist society can point out the evils a company someone else purchases from does, at a point it feels hopeless to even try to have ethical consumption, especially if it means spending much more time/effort to find a probably only slightly better alternative.

Your son and you can enjoy anything and everything you want. I don't expect you or anyone else to change, but that doesn't change the fact that you're willingly participating at the expense of others for your own comfort.

You don't know anything about me or what I take for granted. You don't know what I've given up all in order to lessen my impact on others, or the shame I feel when I fail. Enjoy your fries.

Oh fuck off with this. This is such a cop out. This is like saying since we can't do anything perfectly, we should all just never try at all.

This said, you do you. Pick your battles.

Maybe consider donating some money to some LGBTQ+ causes since you're supporting a group that donates to and perpetuates causes like straights-only marriage and conversion therapy.

Okay. Tell me, what device are you posting this from? Is it powered by purely renewable resources? Was the silicon in the device you used ethically sourced?

I’m not saying we can’t be better as society, America needs some help.

But damn do the capitalists make it hard to do anything right and I’m sick of needing to pass randos’ purity tests.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Your the one who is presenting the concept that ethical choices must be perfect.

I personally think we just need to do our best. It's not a purity test to avoid the most brazenly evil corporations and people. Image matters.

Chickfilet has received record profits due to their bigoted announcement stirring far more conservative Christians than it did LGBTQ+ allies. This had a pronounced impact on our society, and it likely emboldened many of the worst people in politics to eventually escalate things to the level of the current Trump administration.

Put simply, ignoring evil does not make it go away. Yes, there is a massive amount of evil we all experience these days... You can take that as a lesson to never fight it - one of futility. Or, you can pick some battles and fight them. Because sometimes even seemingly small battles can escalate to a war.

As a country, the US certainly is subscribing to your point of view over mine. So... I guess you're on the popular side of things, if that makes you feel better. Very few Americans feel empowered to encite change, so most simply don't try.

They're was a time where they were the best place to get chicken sandwiches. That time has long since passed.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

they did at first, but many lgbtq+ still ate there, it is still the same ceo. they felt like its enough time has passed.

Yeah, this is so depressing. People who eat here are assholes. I judge all of them, no matter who they are.
