And go where? Someplace else that doesn’t want them?

Be real, you just want them to die. To be gone, permanently. Don’t address the reasons people are homeless. Don’t provide actual housing. They’ll be fodder for labour camps soon enough, anyhow.

Nevermind there are currently 28 vacant homes for every one person experiencing homelessness in the U.S., many of which are owned not by individuals but by corporate conglomerates that have no incentive to fill them with people, since they’re a tax write-off.

Fuck everything about this. In modern society, housing should be a human right. There’s already more than enough to go round.

e: though now I think about it, what else should we expect from the US’s most famously notorious slumlord?

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 31 points 4 days ago

The ghettos, like the Jews in Nazi Germany.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 28 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Like other dictatorships building golden palaces and keeping their area nice while not giving a fuck about other places.

Like his planned gaudy gilded ballroom?

collapsed inline media

The number of people who could be fed and housed with that money should make you sick if you’re not a monster.

[–] natecox@programming.dev 37 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That fucking ballroom is proof to me that he doesn’t plan on leaving at the end of this term.

There is no way that selfish greedy fuck would spend the money on this if he didn’t think he would be around to use it for a long time.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 25 points 4 days ago (3 children)

To be fair, he's spending taxpayer dollars, not his own money.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

In his mind, everyone’s money is his money. He basically said this in his rooftop soliloquy.

In practical terms, he's correct. He owns this country and anyone who disagrees is delusional

That is objectively untrue. He has been grifting millions in crypto. There was a period of time after the last defamation judgement when his liabilities outstripped his liquid assets, but then he went full steam into crypto and never looked back. He is a full-time crypto grifter who is the US President as a side gig. And now, everyone understands that if you have business with the US Government, buying some $TRUMP will be a necessary thing to have any sort of positive result.

I was thinking it would be really cool if some crazy person decided to just blow up that bribe jet. But I guess it will not happen. The crazy gun nuts just like to shoot up kids, blacks, gays and Jewish people... and governmental employees/state politicos.

[–] bobs_monkey@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He claimed he's using his own money, though somehow I don't believe him.

[–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

He "donated" his presidential salary for this year. But not the bribes.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

This is his Let them eat cake moment…. I’m wondering how long until feral maga realizes they are getting the big banana and shows up at the capitol with guillotines

[–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Green Zone in Iraq.

He doesn't just want them dead, the rich want us dead. Make no mistake, they believe AI was the turning point they needed* to finally no longer have need of the labor of the poor. And they believe the culling of the poor is the best thing they can do to combat climate change (without any personal sacrifice, of course).

*And no, the fact that AI isn't remotely the miracle they believe it is does not matter because they believe it is even though they're wrong. And yes, the rich do believe in climate change, even as they deny it to our faces.

They need to be taught they're not as smart as they think they are, and they need to learn the cost of their hubris, just like their predecessors did. These are people who have convinced themselves their success means they're geniuses, rather than them being extremely lucky or sociopathic. They believe this because they pay people to be their 'friends' and stroke their egos, so they don't live in reality. Most people go along, because they're hoping that 'success' will rub off on them, and then they fall into the sunk cost fallacy. And worse, 'if I act like him, I'll be successful, too', so they become insufferable cunts, but they can't stop because that means they were wrong.

For the oligarchs, there's no convincing them. The only solution was pioneered by Dr. Joseph-Ignace Guillotin. They can't be swayed, because they're parasites on society. We're talking about money hoarders, who are the same as any other type of hoarder – they could have every penny ever made from the start of humanity until now (and Elon is so close to that it's crazy) – more than could be spent in thousands of years. But it's not enough. It's pathological, but in this case, it's actively hurting not just their immediate family but everyone on earth.

Think about it: what would you do if you had so much money, your descendents literally couldn't spend it all in 1,000 years if they spent a million dollars every day after you died? Would you just sit on it and try to accrue more?

Most of us, I think, would try to end world hunger, or use the bulk of it in a way that would make a major positive effect on humanity. But look at what Musk is doing with it.

[–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

The first thing I would do is end world hunger. Then I would work on irrigation and clean water supply and sanitation. After that, would work on agricultural sustainability. Medical tech/supplying all their health clinics with oxygen and medically stabilizing medications including vaccines and establishing research facilities; training for healthcare professionals. Then I would move on to education for the young once their nutrition and health is established. This is not hard. It has been done in thousands of civilizations.

[–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

I am near retirement... but I have to tell you.. if one of those oligarch/politicos comes in ... I am slow coding that bastard.

[–] Lucelu2@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

I don't need the rich or the government to "believe"... I just want them to understand and have some fucking insight.

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 2 points 3 days ago

I have no doubt in my mind that the wealthy view the non-wealthy in the same way that an average person would view an ant. They may not hate it, but they don't like it, and wouldn't feel the slightest bit guilty killing one if it happens to be in their way, or killing thousands if they feel as though they've "infested" what they view as their property.
