Or we could just try erasing yhe silly bullshit map lines and treating everyone like people?
Sure, we can do it right after countries stop fighting with each other over resources, influence, ideology and religion. When do you think will this happen?
Why do i give a shit about them? The one that's supposedly mine wants me dead. Deployed the military i paid for to kidnap my friends, point guns at me when i go tk the only grocery store in easy walking distance. Why the fuck do i want that?
Nevermind the more subtle ikpersonal shit like letting borders be permeable to goods but not people, isolating laborers from solidarity and increasing the efficiency of exploitation worldwide when we can be more easily pitted against each other. Nevermind the fact that if local stabdards get too high and the workers demand too big a cut of their labor, the factory owner can pick up and move somewhere more exploitation is allowed, the people here can't follow the work, and the people there can't walk away in protest. Lets keep this personal.
So, the place I'm in: it's literally illegal to believe some of the things i believe if you weren't born here, the governing ideology is a queerphobic exterminationist christofascism, and everything i love is under threat from the killers who steal money from me in taxes so they can shoot chemical weapons at me when i ask them to stop killing black people.
The governments on the other side of both land borders have expressed zero explicit desire to exterminate me, and never pointed guns at me because i wanted strawberries, like the one here did for most of this month.
Im trapped in here with the kkk and florida, but i cant have the best-on-the-continent chinese food of vancouver or the excellent tacos of oaxaca unless i risk my life crossing that imaginary line-and, again; not super worried about the mexicans or Canadians killing me or telling me i can never go home. They don't even think about it unless i date them, and even then theyre still more peaceful than a lot of the monsters here.
I've lived in an extraction town in the continental US. It was dystopian, dirty, and poor. We were exploited abd stolen from. How the fuck did the border protect me? Protect the people who couldn't leave? Especially jow with the abolition of OSHA the NLB and the EPA; what the fuck is the point? What does a 'country' do for me? How does it represent me? Please explain this to me.
I actually spend abouf half my time in an extraction town right now, one that got wealthy by also being a shipping/entertainment hub. People are dying on the streets. How the fuck does the border help them?
Explain how the fuck a border keeps me safe. To me, it just feels like a cage. Am i missing something?
It doesn't. It keeps me safe from people from your country. US has a long history of destroying other countries for it's political and economical gains. We have borders to protect us from countries like US and Russia. It doesn't always work but we sure as hell need them.
Okay. But that doesn't seem like it's in the interest of people trapped here.
So... When were borders invented? I assume that just stopped when they were invented, right?
Doing a great job at that.
If you want to remove borders from you country I have nothing against it. In EU we already have free movement across most of the block. When it comes to external borders I definitely would like to keep them and I'm not really interested how people from hostile countries feel about it.
What if we just stopped having those?
So who and how many from those hostile countries to we have to kill to stop them from being hostile? Do we do it blitzkrieg style or Gaza style until all the hostiles are gone? Do you have the reeducation camps ready to ensure whatever resulted in the countries becoming hostile in the first place can't happen again?
I don't know about you, but this is starting to sound like a lot more work (and maybe a lot more death) than just dealing with borders.
I dunno, if they're autocracies, one guy ajd a few ambitious generals?ore if theres a congress or whatever.
My end goal with this proposal isn't pacifying countries, it's getting rid of the concept.
That would be fucking awesome.
