Why not just dissolve your Union and each state can apply to become Canadian provinces? Except for the ones that originally belonged to Mexico, it would be rude if we didn't offer them right of first refusal

I'd rather go independent or confederate like the EU. Just don't think countries function well past 100 million people

I think you're right. I remember reading at one point that the human brain can't really function on tribes bigger than 200-or-so people
