I know a bit about AI, not much, but enough to know that it the environmental impacts of AI are actually minimal. I know how to run my own AI on my own machine, I know how to train and tweak AI, I'm aware that generative AI is possible without copyright theft... but what's life without copyright theft, really? That's not what I'm concerned about since this just sounds like a new version of piracy, and there's always a capitalist workaround for that.

Some artists claim to have been replaced by AI, but in my experience, unless an artist is training a model from scratch, it can't replace a human for a commercial project... not saying a company has never tried, but it's not a good idea. The average person might look at the image and think it's ok, but an artist will see something wrong with it. I like using AI and free clipart to make icons but I wouldn't use it for a storyboard or something like that

Anyway.

It doesn't take that much energy and power to run an LLM or an image generator, and sure, it would take a lot with so many users connecting, across so many servers... but there's just no way they're not mining bitcoin. My math might not be mathing but it seems like AI doesn't justify the power use and it seems like everybody's lying.

Someone who knows more about this inform me of your opinions

I understand not sympathizing with someone who has been diligently groomed, because we only see the resulting behavior, we don't see the slow process of seduction. In her case, she was likely groomed by The Algorithm, which the current administration likely paid for.

It's like he doesn't understand what's happening, right? If this were about anything else, he'd be on the cusp of functionality...

When I read these comments I'm always struck by how Leftists think that Rightists are like... uniquely misogynistic. No... its just that a goat can't smell itself and a fish doesn't have a word for water. Rightists think we're misogynistic too, because a lot of us want to decriminalize sex work or whatever, a goat can't smell itself, the fish can't see the water they swim in...

Their improvement or non improvement will depend on:

If "the other side" can offer them some sort of tangible benefit, because everyone's a misogynist at the end of the day, there isn't a "side" that isn't misogynistic

If the men/males in their community improve, because as women, especially as women in these communities, they have limited political autonomy

I can't really imagine not having sympathy for these women because yeah, Rightists are misogynists but so are Leftists, and they're both self-righteously convinced that this is not so. So, she's got two piles of shit to choose from, the pile of shit on the left or the pile of shit on the right. I'm guessing she went with whichever pile of shit paid her the most... that's what I'd do, that's what any man would do, I'd assume that's what most women would do. In the choice between two devils, you choose the one who offers you something in exchange for your soul, not the one who wants you to give it away for free. Just sayin

We're not on reddit anymore so both of you can just stop.

I cannot speak to whether or not Chinese people are racist for choosing a yellow cartoon character with which to describe their president. As far as I know, they don't do this. I've only ever heard this from Western media. If Western media is going to be racist, they can do a lot better than comparing someone to a female bear imprisoned in the London Zoo. I don't associate female bears with Chinese men, and I don't think Xi (pronouns: he/him) looks like Winnie the Poo, but hey, maybe some people think that's what he looks like. I sort of thought it was supposed to be a fat joke? Now that you mention it, this does sound like something boomers would come up with... it's not exactly a modern cartoon.

When I said that pornography was banned in China, I was speaking from a place of experience with Chinese corporate censorship. It is true that one can get away with breaking the law in China, simply due to the difficulty of policing such a large population. China has many laws, but some are only enforced in order to tack on more jail time for someone caught for a more serious crime. But, they can sentence pimps and porn producers to death, and they have before... so I guess how one interprets this type of censorship depends on how they feel about that.

That’s weird, considering that porn is banned in China and their sex ed is almost nonexistent.

As social media? I'm getting old. It used to just be an image hosting site.
