No Ads

If a notification sends me an ad, I will block the app and also review whether I even need it. Anyone willing to shovel ads at me in my notifications is not my friend.

Other stuff is simple:

  • If I need to know the information right away I allow a notification. Stuff like calls, messages, server monitoring, security, etc. Notifications that only fire when actively using or just after using an app also get to stay on if they are useful.
  • If it's not urgent, I set a reminder in my to do list to review it on a recurring basis, for example "check Mastadon, weekly, Saturday"

Follow up question: how do you handle apps that have persistent notifications?

My partner bought a diatomaceous earth bathmat to replace the rug in front of the shower. It's like stepping onto a piece of cardboard, so zero points for luxury. It does catch and re-evaporate the water well, so full marks there. Humidity is naturally low here, so no I have little to no worries about mold.

This link redirects into a full screen epilepsy flashing banner ad for me. Anyone else?

You can sync Obsidian with your own storage location. There are plugins to do a lot of what you're asking for. Downside is that it's not open source, though your content is all stored in plaintext so you won't lose it due to lock-in. It also might be more than your asking for and a simpler, more tailored, solution may be out there. Paired with a self hosted Nextcloud server, you may solve a bunch of your PIM needs at once.

The local aspect isn't there for most of us.

As a somewhat regular user of the Colorado outdoors, I hope we get a Colorado Hike & Bike community. I know there's at least a few of us because we've discussed Denver biking in the fuckcars community before.

As far as finding replacements, my advice is don't limit yourself by platform when finding equivalents, but focus on the quality and type of the community.

To clarify,

Early on I kind of mapped centralized and federated social media pairs, Reddit-Lemmy, Facebook-Diaspora, Twitter-Mastadon, etc.

Turns out, that was a limiting mindset.

The best basket-weaving group might be a Mastadon hashtag. The best Lego minifigure painting content might be on Pixtagram, and we all know he best place to ask a question is not askreddit, but asklemmy!

I thought Land O' Lakes was a co-op and the CEO/Janitor salaries are way less imbalanced than at most companies? Unless I'm missing something, they're no Telsa, Amazon, Monsanto equivilant. I find it odd they made the list.

CBC does some great investigative reporting. I live in the US, but when they infiltrate scams and show how businesses are lying to us, this is exactly what my local alternative paper used to do when they had the money to do it. I am thankful CBC exists. You guys are S tier together with NPR.

If you can get alphahores from South America, they are small, often prepackaged, cookies of various brands and are excellent. Not sure if there is distribution in Canada but I encountered them in Argentina and Chile.

Depends on if they grew older or cooler with the years!

Mid-30s male here. I've been rocking the shoulder length to armpit length rock and roll hair. Many of the boomers give me a hard time, but everyone under 40 loves it.

Edit: I rarely give endorsements, but I would have cut my hair years ago without CurlSmith conditioner and intense serum.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do want to say: great question.

I borrowed a Mazda 3 with the joystick dial a few times. It's absolutely brilliant.
