okay, so self host it if that is part of your concern/threat model. the Signal server code is open to the public, you can see and download it here.

It's been proven that Signal doesn't have chats or chat metadata in court but this is still a gross violation of OPSEC and all manner of federal law, which I'm not even qualified to talk about. In either case this is hundreds of times worse than the Clinton email server.

Signal is incredibly secure but it's the wrong tool for this application. you can have the best shovel ever and it still won't cut a wedding cake effectively.

the Signal E2E algorithm is great but this was a gross OPSEC failure on the part of the feds, with the fact that they were using Signal being a huge extra embarrassing factoid (not to mention that if they'd have followed protocol, this would have never been possible).

the most hilarious thing on display here is that the Signal protocol is not to blame. this was an OPSEC failure on the part of the feds. Signal is known to be secure but it's a grossly inappropriate tool for this use case.

TLDR: not Signal's fault, the feds are just entirely too stupid.

another sex crime charge has hit the republican party 😞

also, obligatory "not a trans person"

[–] icmpecho@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago

this admin hating on trans women and banning them from competing in sports while entirely overlooking trans men on testosterone who, given the legislative focus on transfem people, could still compete in women's sports (theoretically) while on testosterone underscores how fucking little this admin knows about how this actually works scientifically.

after all why wouldn't "women pretending to be men" be taking testosterone and competing and dominating in sports if that's what this is all about?

The stock got cheaper Thursday morning after his appearance

Hell yeah Gizmodo, go get 'em, we need more of this petty hating.

same, my lifetime license is paying off right about now tbh

agree 100%, I just find what limited joy I can in pointing out that this is likely bullshit and at best a con. I also get a kick out of shitting on Musk for pretending to know what he's talking about when it comes to tech :)

depending on how badly Starlink fucks up the deployment, this could actually make the performance worse especially if airtime and spectrum are limited which I would assume would be the case. Elon throwing APs every which way isn't likely to make that any better.

this is like getting a flat tire on your handcart and buying a G Wagon with no wheels to fix it.

this was nothing that some Ethernet and some APs couldn't fix. and as for the cellular issues, you're literally the White House. Throw up a femtocell, you already have fiber for backhaul.

this is such fucking nonsense. Starlink is fixing precisely none of this.
