I gave up encoding with handbrake. It looks much worse after the fact 99% of the time, no matter which settings I use.

Nvme is terrible value for storage density. There is no reason to use it except when you need the speed and low latency.
But you don't need 32TB storage per drive in your laptop.
Modern Blurays should actually last longer than DVDs. Bluray M-Discs supposedly even last 1000 years. 100 years for DVDs is pretty optimistic. 20-50 years is more realistic.
You don't have to be particularly smart to be manipulative. In fact, it's probably because he's not very smart that he finds these solutions to his goals.
