Probably a bulletproof vest.

Republicans have been told by their leadership that they shouldn't do town halls, but then their opponents talk about how cowardly they are for not standing up for the extremely unpopular policies they support, so some are trying them anyway, always with disastrous results. What else are they supposed to do? They are running for reelection, and their Democratic opponents aren't afraid to face the angry crowds and agree with them, and whip theminto a bigger frenzy.

Now established Democratic congress reps are even doing townhalls in Republican districts, just to face the voters, and show Democratic courage and integrity, and ask questions like "Where is your elected Republican rep? Why cant he face you? Why cant he defend his actions and the actions of his party? Why would you support such a coward? Why is a Democrat willing to face a Republican crowd, when a Republican wont?"

The situation is set for a classic mid-term majority flip, like 2010, which is why the MAGA Nazis wont allow an election to take place. They cant allow the Dems to take either chamber, or they will control the investigative committees. By next summer, violent protests, instigated by RedHats and law enforcement, will give HitlerPig the excuse to declare Martial Law, and suspend elections.

I've wondered if that will happen once they realize they've chased off so many core members.

I'm not sure I'd return. I like the higher volume of posts on Reddit, especially in niche subs, but i don't miss the bots, trolls, puns, novelty accounts, Russian karma farmers, etc.

I once got a banned from a sub for a comment I made in a completely unrelated sub. The Mod saw my comment, didn't like it, but didn’t have the power to ban me in that sub, so they banned me in theirs.

That was my first temp ban, years ago. I was shocked. You can't be pro-Nazi punching?

Musk has been pressuring them to go after critics of him, and the administration, and Reddit is capitulating. Cowards.

I suspect it is because they want to buy TikTok, and they know HitlerPig will award it based on appeasement and the bribe.

I had a 12 year account and almost a million karma, and was permabanned after the inauguration for a comment i had made many times. I came to Lemmy and found i was part of a bloodbath.

I've seen many people with bans on 10+ year accounts. We're the people who built Reddit. Somehow we managed to make thousands of posts for all those years without bans, and suddenly all of us posted lifetime-bannable posts in the same month?

"Look whut the liberals have done to us."

I've heard that the reason why the wealthy support this is because then executive compensation can be designated as tips, and then they won't have to pay taxes.

It sounds like the kind of fantasy that would make sense to them, blinded by their ferocious greed, without realizing that such a tax arrangement would come with strict rules about what constitutes a tip.

Lock him up.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Of course I don't, that's the point. It's time for this to start happening. HitlerPig is using an archaic, rarely used, ancient law to justify the worst sort of authoritarian behavior (denied due process), so why not use actual contrmporary laws that are enforced every day, and for which ANY other person would be charged for?

The Right is always screaming about State's Rights, but they never consider how the swords they deploy against their enemies have two edges, and can be turned against themselves as well. Building an opposition strategy around State's Rights, and using alliances between Blue states to stand up against MAGA is one way to consolidate and focus resistance.

Apparently the entire thing started when Tom Cotton's office received a letter with a Denmark government letterhead, from a Danish politician who claimed he represented Greenland separatist group, and that there was the support among the Greenland population to secede from Denmark, and align with the US. They were asking for money to fund a referendum for their secession.

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service ultimately concluded in 2022 that the 2019 letter was forged, with Russia the likely culprit. An intelligence report from Denmark assessed that Moscow wanted to sow discord between Denmark, the U.S. and Greenland.

It turns out that the letterhead was phony, there is no such politician, and there is no viable Greenland separatist movement beyond the usual barstool government critics.

So Cotton was easily conned, and took it to HitlerPig, who was just as easily conned, and fully adopted the idea. Now they are still pursuing it, despite knowing it was a forgery.

Basically, its just more MAGA stupidity, driven by Putin.
