The AP is not really good for chats, so I would rather use the Matrix protocol that Element, for example, offers as a client.

Do you use other federated software besides Lemmy (e.g. Mastodon/Pixelfed/etc.), if so which? in c/fediverse@lemmy.world

Mastodon, Writefreely, Flohmarkt, Mobilizon all self-hosted
