Consider yourself blessed to be unaware of the entire digital media ecosystem that targets insecure white men via their preferred fandoms and is dedicated to blaming women and minorities for their issues.

This is hilarious to me so I looked up the original article and I am pretty sure that it is largely written by AI.

Also, not that it needs or deserves any kind of analysis, but the central premise (as much as I can decipher from all the ChatGPT fluff) appears to be: "Because Trekkies are conservative, Star Trek is doing everything it can to make men hate it." which obviously makes no sense. Why would a company create a piece of media knowing it would be unpopular with it's core demographic?

Anyway thanks for the laugh, OP.

I was going to report to the mod but... the mod is the one who posted it. Guess I'm unsubbing.

This is really cool, I love that it has a gentle front light. But pricing aside, having to take off the wall to charge every three months is a dealbreaker. I wonder if a solar panel along the top edge of the frame would have been sufficient to keep the battery charged for most situations.

Regardless I hope we see more of these. Even if the ~~Kaleido~~ Spectra 6 screen is FAR from photo quality.

I've suspected this was a thing for a while now but it's nice to see someone naming names. Many subs ban MAGA/hateful content, so a workaround they use is sharing it "innocently" by someone who's "confused as to what the controversy is". A big one is right wings memes being posted in /r/peterexplainsthejoke with the user feigning ignorance as to their meaning. OOTL is another.

Zorin is a solid distro and is designed to appeal to Windows users.

Buuuut knowing what I know now I worry Zorin's simplicity could turn people off of Linux. Zorin is a good OS for your grandmother but the average person who would consider installing Linux wants to be able to tinker. Heck, I would consider the very act of changing your operating to be tinkering. Nobody accidentally stumbles installing Linux.

The options with Zorin are either use it as-is or risk breaking it. That's why I would personally recommend a KDE distro, probably something immutable like Fedora Kinoite. That way you can tinker to your heart's content with no fear of breaking it.

I looked into Aurora after seeing it recommended here but it is basically the same as Kinoite. I tried both and couldn't tell the difference so I stuck with the more "official" one from Fedora

OK this is cool

Tell people to just talk to their therapists instead. That’s much more productive.

I'm just going to say it: 50% of foss projects wouldn't exist if their devs could afford therapy

But there are dozens of people in this very thread who if I am understanding correctly are willing to offer the same service for free to prove their point that Plex is evil.

Note that r/coolguides is a very "normie" subreddit and may require extra handholding. There are a lot of people who don't seem to understand what "open source" means. Some looking for "The Lemmy app" etc. Be patient and helpful!
