The only thing missing is the crowd of armed dipshits looking for the scientists just getting on with making the world a better place

Oh, I know
I said as much further down
The legal burden of proof is fraught
My initial reaction was born of frustration and disgust at what had happened
Our currency is the Dollarydoo
I'm lucky
I don't live in America
It's not about preventing crime
The rich break laws constantly, with no consequences
The police are there to make sure that those who aren't wealthy enough to be insulated from the consequences of their actions know their place
It was a country created to give the west a permanent influence in the middle east
It made sense to put bullies and thugs at the helm, and nothing had changed since then
Israel is not a legitimate state and never was
There's a general scientific consensus based on data and measurement, with the understanding that it's slippery
It is constantly under assault from those who want AI to be conscious, because they get a headline, or they are true believers in some technocratic future, or they're just fantasists
It's shit
Lemmy is not bad, but the great hope is the resurrection of Digg
The trick will be to keep the incels and RWNJs at bay
There are already a number of nazi apologists among the early adopters, waiting for it to go live
It's a shame that the techy types have so many horrible people in their number
Israel won't care until the west stops funding them
Stop supplying them with weapons
Stop condemning them but still giving them money
Prosecute them for the war crimes they're committing, and make them pay
They know that nobody will actually stop them, because they can claim to be victims of antisemitism, a drum they will beat forever, regardless of whether it's valid or not
The rest of the world is now cowed because of a bronze age fairytale
I agree that there's a general consensus about consciousness, the rest slips into the messy and pointless world of philosophy
It's still overreaching to think that it applies to AI as it currently, and foreseeably stands
There's a world of difference between AI and what's recognised as artificial general intelligence
AI can do specific things really well at the moment, but as with all complex systems, going from being good at one thing to many things is a leap far greater than the sum of its parts
There is still no good definition for what "consciousness" is
Tech writers are constantly overreaching because they're afraid to miss out on being the first to say something
The constant sensationalism just means that if something really happens, people will ignore it because we're sick of hearing people cry "wolf!"
Add to that the fact that computery types like to overextrapolate into other things because it fuels their fantasies, and it's all bullshit and overactive imaginations
The problem I see so often with smart computer people is that they don't understand that they don't know shit about other things
Very much so
Sadly, it often takes a case like this before the legal system takes notice
Don't let "perfect" be the enemy of good when the wheels are turning
