https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/venezuelan-migrants-deportations-el-salvador-prison-60-minutes/

Andry Romero is a 31-year-old gay Venezuelan makeup artist who was following the legal process to seek asylum in the U.S. when ICE agents snatched him off the street and shipped him to the El Salvador prison camp called CECOT. Journalists photographed him crying for his mother as guards shaved his head.

Folks, we have people who had legal status in the U.S. and who have NO criminal record being shipped to a prison camp in El Salvador that's notorious for never releasing people alive. An innocent person like Romero could easily be killed there at any time. And there's not enough public knowledge about this: Half the country still thinks all of these people are violent criminals.

What is the opposition movement doing about this, specifically?

Look, it's nice to have big general protests that are about everything wrong with this administration, and there's A LOT wrong.

But one consequence of protesting everything at once is that stuff like this gets lost in the noise.

That cannot be allowed to happen. If these people's cases don't get enough publicity, they're much less likely to ever be freed. The whole country should know about this case.

I know 4/19 is the big thing on everyone's mind right now.

But how about organizing large-scale protests for after 4/19 specifically about Andry Romero, Kilmer Abrego Garcia and other innocent people being shipped off to what is effectively a torture camp?

Is anyone working on that? If so, how do we support that work? Keeping these people's names in the news can help protect them.

The movement is growing. People are waking up. And despite the hate, the intimidation, and the pushback from locals who don’t want change—these people showed up.

I’m so damn proud of every one of them. This is what courage looks like in a place that doesn’t make it easy.

Text from the image: "Here in Canada, many of us believe we are witnessing the fall of the U.S. empire. Would a civilized country limit health care or food assistance for the poor; leave crops rotting in the fields; destroy the educational system; target women and attempt to eliminate their reproductive rights while refusing to help resulting babies; abuse desperate immigrants; pretend to believe in Christianity while perverting and debasing its tenets; and refuse to protect the Earth from destruction? The world is watching." - Paul F Haacker, Canadian public radio journalist

So there’s this woman, Sarah, who delivers packages to my office every morning. We’ve always been friendly—like, coffee-and-chat-about-the-weather friendly. She’s been a hardcore Trump fan since forever, but not the screaming-on-Facebook type. More like the "I just think he tells it like it is!" kind.

Then COVID hit. She refused the vaccine, went full "ivermectin cured my cousin!" mode, and you better believe I heard ALL about it. I didn’t argue much—just said, "Huh, weird, my vaccinated ass recovered in three days with just tea and naps." But whatever, live and let live, right?

Then yesterday.

She shows up looking exhausted. Turns out her hours got cut—"Nobody’s spending money anymore!"—and her husband’s construction business is "dead, just dead." Meanwhile, I’m over here like: "Girl, my grocery bill is a horror movie, my kid’s teacher quit because nobody can afford to live here, and I had to wait FOUR HOURS at the ER last week because they’re so understaffed!"

And then—I swear to God—she drops this bomb: "…Maybe we were wrong about all of it."

I didn’t dance. I didn’t scream "I TOLD YOU SO!" (even though my soul did a backflip). I just sighed and said, "Yeah. Maybe it’s time to vote like our lives depend on it next time."
