Sometimes Canada goes overboard. In Ontario you need to wear a hard hat to plant trees.

I lose my mind over this, too.

ICE Agents Attack Journalists, is accurate

Confrontation with ICE Agents Ends with One Journalist in Hospital, is still accurate.

This title makes it sound like the journalist tripped and fell on their way to bother some ICE agents.

If you see this comment, it could be interesting to get an idea of how many people:

a) Thought OP posted this in like a "Look at how dumb this is" way, or,

b) Thought OP agreed with the idea presented in the image.

I think this might have to do with communication climates (I am so far from an expert in anything) and how a climate of disagreement with peers and prevalent media can affect how a message is received. In other words, if surrounded by stupid people with stupid ideas it's easy to assume the next stupid idea has come from a stupid person.

Let's play Pick the Cognitive Biases. Not just in the picture, but in the comments and the reasons people downvoted this.

My favorite part:

Some culture-bound syndromes appear with similar features in several cultures, but with locally specific traits, such as penis panics.

My somewhat unfounded opinion is that living as part of a marginalized group, subject to different rules (legal or social,) makes one question rhe validity of all rules. Marginalized and intersectional people wouldn't be as interested in following convention in the first place.

Add to that, a push to get more women into trades where the gender divide is greater, with assistance that recognizes the increased difficulty for women to get into those fields.

This is a weird headline. Like eating out is a normal thing to do, we see it come up on the calendar and are just like "Nah, let's skip paying more for food today."

I might be a magnet for anomalies but every welder I know is either a woman or non-binary and gay as hell.

What a surprise the individual rights advocates only want to protect their rights.

I hope this woman wakes up with a dick.

Yes, you just described how a contract works. It's pretty clear you didn't read the whole point because that's the same thing I said but in worse terms.

I'm done with this thread, but you have a good one.

I mean... they did take her work off the shelves. They did just make it harder to support her work.

Much of the article, and the headline of the article, are about the rules on public image not being unilaterally applied.

I can't parse your last sentence.

"In offering further thoughts on the recent ’emergency stop’ placed on her overall DC career, Red Hood Vol. 2 writer Gretchen Felker-Martin has criticized how the publisher was exceptionally fast to not just cancel, but fully recall the only published issue of her Red Hood Vol. 2, but did not offer a similar response to a number of other ‘uncouth’ creators."

When we all join together, we can make something beautiful.

EDIT: Love all these recommendations. We got a pretty good playlist going on here.

Bonus points for low impact and cheap/free. I have a foot injury and can't run/bike/hike for a bit.

Editing this to say:

  • Thank you all for the suggestions, I love the Lemmy community, and,
  • I know a lot of workouts can be done at home, and these are all great ideas. However, I bike/hike because I have trouble motivating myself to just work out as an activity. I trick myself using fun, but I don't know how to make indoor excercise exciting.

In the aftermath of more slow, dystopian, apocalypse shenanigans I'm trying meditations to slap a bandaid on my hemorrhaging mental health.

Seems like all I can find are slow ASMR style speeches about sunny fields and peachy angels, and I can't stand that don't-wake-the-baby talk. I'm not a baby.

I connected with one, lost to time, led by a guy with a chronic smoker's rasp who demanded inner peace. It was spiritually healing because I have a poor relationship with my father.

Please, friends, do you know any free, guided meditations that aren't condescendingly peaceful? That aren't trying to sell supplements or pitch their sponsors midway through?

PS. No posh london accents, they remind me of the king.
