NEED TO KNOW

Donald Trump bragged about eliminating hundreds of thousands of federal jobs in a Dec. 26 Truth Social post

The White House's Rapid Response team said job positions within the U.S. government are at the lowest level since 2014, with 271,000 roles abolished

According to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in the United States in November is at 4.6%, with 7.8 million people unemployed

That's 270,000 people who were interviewed, trained and had accumulated domain specific knowledge paid for by the tax payer.

He's bragging about burning your house down

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

But they are saving so much in taxes now! (the owners, with the house burned down I mean)

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

And there is even less federal oversight for his billionaire oligarch friends now.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 1 points 21 hours ago

Really, it's only positives for the ordinary people. What a dream 💕

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, but that refund check of $1000 or whatever will be like throwing you a one-foot rope when you are a mile in the hole!

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 67 points 23 hours ago (5 children)

What I really want conservatives to contend with is the fact that cutting the size of the federal workforce this way has done LITERALLY NONE of the things they always insist shrinking the government will accomplish.

  • It has not reduced prices. In fact, those are way up.
  • It has not reduced taxes on the middle and lower classes. In fact, those are up too (while taxes on the ultra-wealthy continue to drop).
  • It has not made government services more efficient. In fact, those are now substantially shittier.
  • It has not made health care less expensive.
  • It has not made unemployment go down (obviously).
  • It has not made the private sector step in where government services falter.

Everything is more expensive and less efficient now. Small government does not equal good government.

Conservatives, this is what happens when you elect people who will actually follow through on the batshit insane garbage you've always wanted. You own this mess.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 35 points 23 hours ago

You expect them to reflect. They are already onto the next manufactured crisis.

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 14 points 23 hours ago

I think they have proven that shrinking the government leads to less oversight and more corruption, so for them its a win!

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 19 hours ago

But........I can hate gays and trans people right? Because that's why I voted for him.

Oh and because I want to be openly racist.

We all want Conservatives to think. I just don't see it ever happening.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 55 points 1 day ago

We all know. He made everything worse and made it cost more money.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

270,000 ordinary Americans who were working in public service roles and are now unemployed. It's nothing to celebrate.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 8 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You say that but you're forgetting that tRUMP is such a cunt that he would publicly brag about raping little girls if he could. So bragging about ruining so many lives will deffo get his little mushroom twitching.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 5 points 21 hours ago

I'm honestly surprised he isn't bragging about raping young girls. Why can't he at this point? He's not going to be prosecuted

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 28 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

We are about to see why libertarianism never worked.

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Seeing how it didnt work with Ayan Rand you'd think ppl would abandon it completely

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

The fact that someone can write such clunky sci-fi that fails in every way and yet still influences so many dumbasses is really an indictment on humans, it seems.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

PS: A very interesting tally of Trump1.0:

  • The economy lost 2.7 million jobs. The unemployment rate increased by 1.7 percentage points to 6.4%.
  • Paychecks grew faster than inflation. Average weekly earnings for all workers were up 8.4% after inflation.
  • After-tax corporate profits went up, and the stock market set new records. The S&P 500 index rose 67.8%.
  • The international trade deficit Trump promised to reduce went up. The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services in 2020 was the highest since 2008 and increased 36.3% from 2016.
  • The number of people lacking health insurance rose by 3 million.
  • The federal debt held by the public went up, from $14.4 trillion to $21.6 trillion.
  • Home prices rose 27.5%, and the homeownership rate increased 2.1 percentage points to 65.8%.
  • Illegal immigration increased. Apprehensions at the Southwest border rose 14.7% last year compared with 2016.
  • Coal production declined 26.5%, and coal-mining jobs dropped by 25%. Carbon emissions from energy consumption dropped 11.3%.
  • Handgun production rose 12.5% last year compared with 2016, setting a new record.
  • The murder rate last year rose to the highest level since 1997.
  • Trump filled one-third of the Supreme Court, nearly 30% of the appellate court seats and a quarter of District Court seats.

This is what companies do to other companies they acquire right before selling off the parts.

[–] howl2@lemmy.zip 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

They are preparing to sell off the nuclear power generators out of our battle ships and subs to a private firm to power data centers. Those data centers will likely have huge government contracts to process information about us and manipulate the information we have access to, paid courtesy of our tax dollars. In the meantime drumpft is trying to replace those ships with new ones branded with his name on them, which isn't just a vanity thing, it's also about royalties. The grift is never ending.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

Sell the nuclear power and convert everything to coal power including the submarines.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Take THAT America!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

This is what happens with decades of brainrot Ronnie Raygunism instructing dipshit cons that government jobs are not "real" jobs. I'm sure lots of conservatives cheer for this.

Even if they or their family work in government (trust me, I've seen this kind of thing - committed Libertarians/Objectivists working for the Post Office or as public school teachers. I wish I was kidding).

[–] karashta@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

No better way to raise effective demand in the economy than to fire 1/1000 people alive.

[–] frizzo@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Closer to 5,900,000 total jobs

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 21 hours ago

He understands that's not supposed to be the goal....right?

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This, coupled with a universal basic income for the unemployed, made everyone forget about his pedophilia.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Nobody forgot about his pedophelia and incestuous comments about wanting to bang his own daughter.

Republicans are happy about those things.

There’s a big difference.

[–] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whose universe are you from?

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social -1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The one where people understand sarcasm without the /s

[–] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’ve never been good with sarcasm, especially in text. It’s an unfortunate side effect of a mental disability I have, but thank you for explaining.

Yeah, lemme reverse my downvote real quick 😅

I'm easily frustrated when people don't pick it up if it's that obvious, but I guess there are exceptions I didn't think about.

If you are unsure in the future and you need someone to explain it, just ask me. I'm 70% sarcasm*, I'll dissect it easily 😂

*the rest is pure modesty.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I mostly remember to use the slash 's' but sometimes I forget. Thanks.
