Embattled FBI duo face renewed scrutiny over botched response to Brown University shooting

Kash Patel’s troubled tenure as Donald Trump’s FBI director may be “at its end,” according to multiple sources, in the wake of the recent mass shooting at Brown University along with a series of other perceived mishaps. Meanwhile, staffers also say that Deputy Director Dan Bongino is already “out the door,” signaling a larger shakeup at the agency.

Patel boasted Sunday on X that the FBI had brought in a “person of interest” in the Brown shooting using “geolocation capabilities” and then added that Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez had praised the FBI for following through on a tip to locate the potential suspect.

A few hours later in a Sunday evening press conference, however, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said that person had been released, as there was “no basis” to keep them in custody. Patel had made similar announcements about a “person of interest” during the early stages of the FBI’s investigation into Charlie Kirk’s murder, and was also forced to walk those back.

Imma put on my tin foil hat for second and say that I'm pretty sure them being incompetent and eventually fired was always the point. They were used just like the rest of MAGA to do the "dirty work" of dismantling the institutions. Now that they have fucked it all up they can bring someone in that is competent to "save" it but will intentionally rebuild these institutions to serve the purposes of the Heritage Foundation and tech bros. These guys were just used for their stupidity to make room for the smart people that can actually build the fucked up systems that they want.

They dont exactly have a deep bench here.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

Yeah exactly. Next up: a just-as-incompetent-MAGA-clown, Missouri’s AG. That’s the poor man’s Florida AG.

Every single person that works for Trump is just an expendable torch-bearer, waiting for their turn to be thrown under the bus. Their sole purpose is to soak up as much damage as possible, before being tossed aside and replaced by a fresh meat-shield. It's like one long relay race of bullshit, with each new spokesperson passing the baton to the next, before falling on their own sword.

I find it hard to believe these idiots don't realize their only purpose is to be a smokescreen for Trump to hide behind, while they eventually face all the consequences of his actions. How stupid do you have to be, to not see what's coming for you, when everyone who came before you, ended up with the same fate? The best they can hope for is a pardon, after they've completely destroyed their own lives.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Well, if they weren't complete idiots, they wouldn't be conservatives, would they?

[–] flamiera@kbin.melroy.org 6 points 22 hours ago

That's how it was in the first term. How many speakers did Trump burn through in his first term? It was a revolving door.

When I am President I promise to only place the best podcasters in charge of law enforcement. Robert Evans will be head of the CIA and Dan Carlin will lead the ATF with honour

[–] Saracha@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Okay but I actually would be really interested in Robert having access to the CIAs documents. Sophie can run the agency.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 4 points 21 hours ago

Sophie's brother is a doctor so I'm putting her in charge of the CDC

[–] lepinkainen@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Joe Rogan for education or health? 🤔

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 4 points 21 hours ago

I said best podcasters

He'd be just as bad as RFK Jr, though probably less actively malicious

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 17 hours ago

Only positive I could see is legal weed. But they’re still managed to fuck that up probably

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

When I am president, I will make sure to install all loyalist puppets in every seat of power in the USA.

I mean literal puppets. I am thinking Oscar the Grouch for Defense Secretary, Gonzo for FBI director, Kermit for White House Press Secretary, and so on.

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

The next chess pieces will be worse.

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

Awww, but they were doing such fine, extraodinary, on brand, job.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

We all know Patel is just a brown scapegoat. Dude said he can't wait to see Kirk in Valhalla or whatever the hell that meant. He's exactly what Trump wants - Made to be incompetent and soften the blow of many FBI shakeups as retribution for what the FBI did during the first Trump administration.

But if we're going after incompetence - Pete Hegseth invited a reporter into a secret chat about an actual military engagement. He continues to push his Nazi bullshit forward and engage in war crimes.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Speaking of, the FBI and CIA have to be extremely incompetent anyway given the amount of shit tonnage trump has dropped on them with absolutely no pushback or anything.

If they’ve got anything, they’re not using it. So either they don’t have anything, they’re complicit in massive corruption, or they’re utterly powerless to carry out their mission.

Embarrassing.

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I swear they've been saying this for months.

Do it already.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, at this point I don't expect him to last to 2029 (ugh, that number is too damn big) but also I'm not hitting F5 to see if he's out yet. He'll go when the shit stops missing the fan.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Can't wait to not read the Tell All books they'll inevitably write.

*Won’t tell all. Or anything.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 20 hours ago

Let's see my checklist:

  • are they loyal to Trump? check

Checklist complete. They passed and can continue in their positions.
