the thing is, that rich ppl would destroy the economy on a whim themselves, if left completely unrestricted by laws and public criticism.

Cancer cells usually destroy their host body because they don't care, because line goes up.

The rich people's yacht money experienced a downturn after the latest stock news.

The minister for rich people's yacht money development proposed a new plan on Tuesday.

The rich people's yacht money is in deep trouble after several countries limiting the freedom of rich people's yacht money opportunities.

I'm sure that often times "the economy" is used as an excuse for yacht money, but I don't like the idea of pretending "the economy" doesn't also include poor people's grocery money.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 12 points 3 days ago

The "economy" just means stock prices whenever you hear politicians or news pundits talking about it. They don't give a shit about buying groceries or affording rent, or people finding jobs. It just refers to stock portfolios and anything else is superfluous.

The economy does include grocery money.. but when a news article/show speak about the "economy" it is rich people yacht money all the time

[–] Dry_Monk@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Eh... Poor people's grocery money comes from wages, paid by rich people from their piles of yacht money. If the yacht money is in trouble, they will sooner cut jobs or wages than lose out on more yacht money.

That's the issue — the economy is yacht money.

This fits kind of perfectly, but let's make it crasser.

Rich assholes' child sex slave island money?

Edit: pedo island money

There are browser plugins that automatically replace The Economy with Rich People’s Yacht Money. It’s crazy how much it changes the tone of an article.

Lemmings will still defend rich people's yacht money if the alternative means they paid to learn something wrong in college.

Watch this.

Let's limit inflation and spend all the newly issued money on public works, so groceries cost fewer hours each year instead of more hours each year.

Edit: OK fine you proved me wrong

You're not wrong.

"the economy" is codeword for rich people getting money for not doing anything.

ie, welfare for the superrich.

when state focuses on stock market numbers going up rather than public welfare or sustainable growth. it's just funneling public money and institutions to feed the never ending greed of the rich. then sanitise it by calling it "the economy"

The problem is that the only money left is rich people yacht money, the only thing we can do at this point is try to claw enough back that we don't starve to death this week.

This concern is entirely justified. The yacht funds of the wealthy serve as a “ballast stone” for social stability—Coping with the pandemic? Yachts function as mobile isolation pods, safer than hospitals (with ocean views to boot!). Protecting the environment? New-energy yachts (the pricier, the greener) are the ultimate statement of eco-consciousness; universal healthcare? Private medical pods aboard yachts are 100 times more reliable than public insurance (after all, if money can solve it, it's not a problem).

This is a primary purpose of the pseudo-science called "economics".
