Or stop feeding them so much? I've had pets my whole life. A cat and dog now, but multiple cats and dogs since I was born . My parents had cats when I was born.
Not one was ever fat. This doesn't seem complicated.

I have one with hormone issues. She is 16 and does not over eat. She is 4 pounds overweight and its kinda hard to take a 16 year old cat jogging. Just because you have perfectly healthy animals isn't a realistic measure of everyone else's pets.
Obviously there are exceptions but that's not driving fat drugs for pets.
What would happen if she was fed less?
4 pounds doesn't sound massive for an old cat compared to how fat most "fat cats" are
If it's hormonal based weight gain, and yiubjust fed them less, then the cat would most likely feel permanently hungry. Not an ideal situation. Just like a person, if hormones are out of whack, it's not as easy as just eat less/eat more.
Average cat is 12 pounds, so 4 pounds overweight is like a person who should be 180lb weighing 240lb. Also, a hungry cat is a fucking nightmare to live with.
And then you wrap them in a blanket........right? RIGHT???
Seriously, like these aren't humans making their own food decisions, they depend entirely on their owners for food. How exactly are drugs like this supposed to help the human to stop overfeeding them?
Guess the food in their bowls will sit uneaten or when they get fed junk (human) food they'll just not be interested?
Not defending overfeeding pets. This is for people that free feed their pets and don't want the hassle of having to measure out food at specific times because it's inconvenient.
We struggled with that transition when our cat got a bit fat so we did automated feeders. Which cost about as much as a month of those medications...

No, we don't buy breeds, we generally rescue our pets, our current two came from SAAP.
I've had good luck with slow-feeder inserts in the bowls.

So far comments are pretty judgemental; you should know that male, neutered cats tend to gain weight with standard diets due to hormonal changes. Pair that with indoor-only lifestyle (which is very recommended for safety) and a dry food diet (which isn't recommended but is cheaper) you have a good chance at a cat gaining too much weight.
Yes, there will also be people who just spoil their cats, but so long as we're neutering and keeping cats inside then a weight loss drug might be reasonable to offset those factors.
