Every system ends up becoming the same thing if you fill the top leadership with psychopaths who want to rule the world

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

And if your system is a hierarchy of power, it's a guarantee that in time the top of it will be filled with psychopaths.

[–] punksnotdead@slrpnk.net 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Hell, even flat structures seem to trend towards an informal elite of psychopaths.

The average person doesnt have the energy or desire to be constantly vigilant against overreach of power, but psychopaths do, to figure out weaknesses.

The only effective combat against this that I've seen is nonnegotiable time limits on positions. You get your chance in the sun and then you need to find another role, otherwise tendrils get planted and power gets consolidated.

The smaller the group or more complex the roles however, the harder that is. That's why education and skill sharing is so important, so that no one person becomes indispensable.

Specialized roles in governance should always be rotated per meeting, if you associate a role with an individual for a length of time beyond the ephemeral you have a standing power concentration. This is radically different than what we live with now but it's not as impossible or even as impractical to do as it sounds.

Flat structures need not collect power, but it's important to remember that organization isn't the only place that can collect power to an individual, things like charisma exist. They don't necessarily need to be discouraged but the organization needs to at least be designed in a way that it isn't threatened by or nullifies the existence of such social influence.

If those tankies could read, they’d be very upset.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Maybe the solution to a less-shitty world is accountability to the people whose lives we are affecting?

No, no, me and my friends will be totally different, as long as we get absolute power to reshape society in our image! Nothing will go wrong this time!"

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Humans: ... Great idea! ... Let's find the most deplorable, selfish, psycotic, ignorant and greedy people we can find to run this new system .... what could go wrong!

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Excuse me, I'd like to get off this unending Merry-Go-Round, I think I'm going to be sick

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You are free to walk off the edge of our flat earth and land on a turtle

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just gotta dodge the nets.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago

Free people in the land of the free don't use nets. They use fentanyl because they can't afford good heroin or health care.

My 'favorite' is when people who are Very Definitely Not MLs (or worse, professedly anarchists) who aggressively slobber on the PRC's boots and celebrate things like USAID being ended and hundreds of thousands of people dying because of it, because "USA bad, China good!"

Don't worry, BAD CAMP brings only "tarrifs, sanctions, neocolonialism, and demands" while GOOD CAMP brings "investment, stability, and economic opportunity"

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Unless you’re in the Uyghur concentration camp… But they’re not allowed to talk about that

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's Not That Bad, they're terrorists, the LIBERALS are just fearmongering, it's all Sinophobia, and anyway whatabout when the USA etc etc etc

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don’t forget about the Native Americans. It’s not like China has ever done that. The people of Tibet asked for it.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Tibet's rulers were authoritarian, therefore, colonialism and imperialism is justified (it's painted red this time, don't worry)"

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, so that’s what they mean by free Tibet!

[–] nightwatch_admin@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago

Yes, free to belittle, plunder and trample on.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Every self professed anarchist I've come across on Lemmy has said things or expressed ideas that oppose anarchism. Cringe every time. I imagine they have pictures of V and Joker—definitely not anarchists—on their basement wall.

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah. Any conversion that begins with “I’m an anarchist, so…..” immediately gets ignored.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are a lot of anarchists on here who have legitimate arguments to make. Don't write them all off.

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When I see one, I’ll stand corrected.

[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Hello! I'm an anarchist so.........I support decentralized, non-hierarchal power structures, equity of access to resources for all people, and freedom from coerced labor.

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Let’s be clear here, Marx did say true communism can only emerge after capitalism has had its full run. That would setup all the necessary production processes that could then be seized and made to work for the people.

A lot can be said about Winnie and his friends, but they arguably got Marx a whole lot better than the MLs

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago

But a large part of the argument made by Marx involves the existence of a bourgeois revolution to bring bourgeois democracy, which then brings about the conditions necessary for a proletarian revolution, both in the creation of a strong proletariat (by the development of capitalism) and the development of class consciousness (by the contradictions inherent in bourgeois democracy and the activity of the proletariat themselves within it).

I would argue that the entire "Capitalist dictatorship trying to develop capital but painted red" doesn't 'get' Marx any more than "Anti-capitalist dictatorship trying to develop capital." You can argue that the capitalist dictatorship is 'closer' to the development outlined by Marx, but by a Marxist analysis, what they're doing is setting up the conditions for a bourgeois revolution.

And quite clearly, the current PRC is not interested in assisting a bourgeois revolution in overthrowing them. Few governments are interested in their own destruction.

TFW your country is so communist it has finishing schools for women trying to land a billionaire husband: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kb_2K_R7o8

I never got the sense that Xi J (rhymes with CJ) was promising the Chinese people a transition to fully realized communism.

I could be wrong but it seems like the vast majority of Chinese people* are fine with the government as it is, as long as they have stability and decent living conditions.

Edit: moved the parenthesis down here*i.e. not:

  • Uyghurs
  • debt slaves on fishing boats in the dark zone
  • people being ~~tortured~~ detained by the government for ~~saying not-nice things about the government~~ fomenting disorder
[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 day ago

The Chinese characteristics being no personal freedoms or labour laws.

Just PugJesus doing their usual thing. Lol check out all the posts from the last few hours. I hope they're getting paid for all that.

I feel like they need a “Chinese Trump” to open some eyes, kinda like it has for the US (and those that worshiped the US). Like, some head of state to succeed Xi that’s really sloppy and loud.

For all that has happened in US, the past decade has changed some very conservative family of mine… not all of them, but some.

If it happens, they'll react just like Trump supporters do here.

None of it matters. Oftentimes, they admire the stupidity.
