I had quite a conservative upbringing, and considered myself a conservative when I was a very young adult. But I never would have thought that one person was more important than my own beliefs. We are supposed to live in a representative democracy, where if one politician is disgraced, then you boot him to the curb, and go root around in the trash bin for the next politician. It's not like there's a shortage of politicians.
Similar upbringing and path. It's felt terrible to learn so many friends and family don't actually care about policy, democracy or even freedom as much as they want to hate a "liberal" and want their politician to do the same.

I believe that in the past some of them had morals, but that now none of them do.
I think it's possible to have small c conservative values and still be a productive and peaceful member of society. Even if I might disagree with their views.
However, I don't know that the American political right has had any genuinely held small c conservative values since Reagan, so
Small c conservative values before Reagan were racism and segregation so I'm personally not convinced. I mean if you look at a timeline of American rightwing politics you go from Jim Crow to the Civil Rights Movement and right into Nixon's Southern Strategy. That shit has always been based on racism and slavery.
Small c conservatism is specifically about victimizing minority groups. That is not peaceful.
What does this change? Before the election, the whole world already knew Trump raped children and 77 million Americans voted for him anyway. It was everywhere. There was no rock large enough that anyone could hide under it and not know that truth. They were OK with this.

It won't release on Tuesday. Not because of any kind of cover up, but because it's only in the House right now. If on Tuesday the House votes to release it... It goes to the Senate. And they won't vote on it that same day. There is no "if" it releases on Tuesday because there is literally no route for that to happen. And even moving forward, it's extremely unlikely to ever get released this way.
That's why I've been pulling my hair out at all the idiots going "OMG we got the 218 signatures now! They're gonna vote to release it!!1!"
Yea... In the House. Then it goes to the Senate. Then it goes to Trump's desk where he's essentially guaranteed to veto it. Then it goes back to the house who now needs a 2/3rds majority, which they don't have.
That's how fucking bills work. We learned this in fucking grade school with schoolhouse rock. "Oh we have the signatures now!" is completely meaningless. It's like celebrating you won the lottery when all you've done is buy a ticket; you still don't stand a snowballs chance in hell.
