Does anyone know how quickly we can expect nothing to happen as a result of this discovery?

I will never forget Kid Rock talking about the Olsen Twins on Saturday Night live:

Kid Rock: The Olson Twins. Why is every guy in America waiting for these chicks to turn 18? I mean, you know what I’m saying? If there’s grass on the field, play ball!

This was in 2001, they were 14 years old at the time.

[–] the_tab_key@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Yep, I remember that well. Revolting

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 9 points 4 days ago

I really, really hope they double down on the whole ebiphile thing

Please, let's get into the weeds on what flavor of pedophile our leaders are. Let's really break it down, maybe add some infographics?

Remember this guy was the original pick for Bondi's job.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 32 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's not a twist of it's exactly what we all expected!

Gang Of Pedos!

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

It's not even new, anybody with half a brain and eyes on US Politics knew all of this already.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 42 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I think the timing is weird. This is old news, for sure. They're throwing Gaetz to the wolves to have a chaotic diversion from the epstein files.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago

Could just be a good time to remind people how irredeemable the Republicans are.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How does pointing out Trump's original pick for head of the DoJ was yet another pedo in his circle while even more evidence that Trump is definitely a pedo has just dropped, in anyway a distraction?

Especially amidst rumors he was contemplating pardoning Maxwell. And he just pardoned another pedo...

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

Because it takes up the front page, it's over a year old news, and they really don't want the word "epstein" included in the headlines. Gaetz' controversy is perfect for that.

I think billionaires are realizing he's actually not good for the economy or their money after all. So they're going to rightly use the truth to get this stuff to the right media this time and force him out.

He's out by Valentine's Day was my call. Of all the stuff he's done, it may have been screwing with JPow and Lisa Cook that does him in.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Maybe, yeah. To some extent though, I think perception is reality.

I think if the overwhelming reaction is "nothing will come of it", it makes it more likely that nothing will come of it. But the media is certainly acting like it could be more.

At least my friend's reaction, "he'll never be held accountable for his crimes" still acknowledges that he's a criminal that should be behind bars.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

At this point it seems written in stone that Trump will never face consequences for anything ever

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago

Family values. Christlike even!

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The horrific part where that evil looking prick isn't getting the standard pedo treatment at a supermax?

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 2 points 4 days ago

Prison is for poor people who could not hire a better lawyer or buy a judge.

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

That's some mighty fine deflection there Lou

To raise funds, Wolf said she signed up for a “sugar dating” website, which connects rich older men with young women. She lied about her age, claiming she was 18.

Not defending him in the slightest, but could he have thought she was of legal age? In the article I didn't find a mention of how old he thought she was.

[–] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Legally it doesn't matter, statutory rape, among other sexual charges use strict liability.

[–] Cricket@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Wait, from a purely logical and legal perspective, how does that work? The guy is disgusting and I'm not defending him, but speaking in general terms, if someone lies about their age, how is the other person liable? Presumably this service would have some age check and claim that all the people on their site were of legal age?

How about a scenario where person A meets person B who looks of age and person B shows them a (fake) government ID showing that they are of age? Is person A still legally liable?

Yikes, I searched and found my own answer. I see what you meant by strict liability - at least in California, it means the person over age is still liable even if the minor shows a fake ID. That's a scary scenario to think about for sure (not for me personally, just in general). Source: https://thenieveslawfirm.com/what-if-a-minor-lies-about-their-age-online/

[–] olympicyes@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If he were 19 and they were having sex for free this wouldn’t be a big deal. He’s paying and more than twice her age. Especially because he’s a high profile public figure, additional scrutiny should be applied, including background checks. The fact that he finds himself in bed with a 17 year old who needs to pay for braces just proves that the allegations of FSB/Mossad/Epstein kompromat are a credible. What would these idiots be willing to do to ensure their actions aren’t made public?

[–] Cricket@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

Oh, I totally agree. I was thinking in general terms, like a 25 year old having sex with someone who told them that they were 19, but actually being 17. I just didn't realize that the over age person would be liable even if the minor used a fake ID to pretend that they were of legal age.

[–] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Strict liability for possession crimes scares me the most, feel like it'd be easy to set someone up.

[–] Cricket@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

Is that like drugs? Are they strict liability as well? That definitely sounds scary.

[–] tornavish@lemmy.cafe 4 points 5 days ago

What republican male, and some females, haven’t paid an under age person for sex?

reps will be reps, right?

[–] UncleGrandPa@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Other Republicans won't be bothered by something so trivial as pedphilia

To Republicans it's like a parking ticket
